Help needed to buy mouthwash
« on: August 16, 2020, 03:26:01 AM »
I'm gonna have a wisdom tooth out soon and afterwards they give you meds and a nasty mouthwash to use afterwards.

Last time I used a bubblegum alcohol free mouthwash to take away the taste but it's no longer made.

Amazon.com have a suitable substitute but they wont ship to me so I am wondering  if some lovely person could buy it and ship it to me. I will of course cover everything.

If it can't be shipped overseas it may be because it doesn't have the right clearance for sale on the market, which means it could easily be confiscated at customs and destroyed. The things Amazon doesn't ship internationally are generally things that for some reason aren't allowed to be because of international regulations.

You should probably check that out first, to make sure it wouldn't breach import rules...otherwise it could be trouble for the person shipping it as well.

I never used the mouthwash when I had my wisdom teeth out. I rinsed with salt water exclusively, and neither became infected. Maybe something you could talk to your dentist about? I was advised to do that because the flavour of the mouthwash was too strong for me, and it was fine.

Are you talking about the Hello Kitty fluoride rinse?  Yeah they discontinued it.  Yeah I went looking for it too.

Also yes, there are import restrictions on this type of product.  your first clue is that Amazon won't sell it.

But they are selling it.

If the box was marked as a gift then it should be ok.

Does it have to be that specific brand?  It seems there are a variety of alcohol-free, bubblegum flavor mouthwashes available.  ACT, Spry, Crest, Meijer brand, Walmart brand, all seem to have a version.

Also, you don't say what country you are in...?

That's a crime, even if it is commonplace. :P
I agree that there are many alcohol-free mouthwashes, and I'm going to echo Taffeta's point. I got my wisdom teeth out last year and didn't have any sort of mouthwash, just had to do a salt water rinse.

But they are selling it.

If the box was marked as a gift then it should be ok.

Asking someone to send as gift if it isn't a gift is technically mail fraud and you can get serious fines or other complications if someone was to look into it. Which they might do, being that it would go through a scanner anyway.  They would have to list mouthwash on the custom form as well. Ticking the gift box does not stop customs examining a package. If it did, we'd get a lot of bad stuff sent overseas that way xD. It only determines import charges, which would benefit you, but put the sender at risk.

And Amazon.com selling it is immaterial. There are a different list of passed ingredients for the USA than here in Europe and the UK, and if something on the US ingredient list is not passed by the EU, then it won't be allowed through the borders. This applies to all EU countries and it still applies to the UK (till December).

It being deemed safe for use in the US - and it being safe for use - is not the same as being designated safe for import by the receiving country. If it was meant to be sold overseas, it would be available overseas. Amazon by law cannot sell something overseas that does not meet the requirements of that country, even if there is nothing wrong with it.

It's not really fair to expect someone to put themselves at risk to try and sneak import it.

I'd speak to your dentist about the taste of their horrible mouthwash and ask about salt water or something else instead.

@SunPony - I believe OP is here in the UK, and none of the brands you mention are sold here :) I'm guessing for the same reason - lists of accepted ingredients are different between regions.

Though Listerine does do alcohol free mouthwash, it does still feel like rinsing your mouth with weapon grade mustard powder.

The UK, eh?  Let's see, when I lived there I used some kind of...clove-flavored mouthwash, I'm pretty sure it was alcohol-free and it seemed pretty mild but I can't remember the brand name.  :lookround:

A quick search of Boots website shows several options of non-mint flavored alcohol-free mouthwashes:

Not a huge selection for kids' mouthwashes.

I also hate mint-flavored toothpaste and mouthwashes, so I understand your predicament.  I usually use cinnamon or kids' strawberry toothpaste, and orange mouthwash.  Mint always makes me sneeze!
