Need help fixing Gingerbread
« on: July 30, 2017, 05:52:02 PM »
Hi All! I am starting to clean up and restore my childhood ponies and am at a loss as to what to do with my Gingerbread. I have included pics as I don't know what is wrong with her body or how to fix it. Any advice is appreciated!

Thanks!

You could try sun fading.

I really wouldn't recommend sunfading her - she burns.

Looks like discoloration and pvc breakdown. Have you popped her open to see if she's moldy/rusty inside?

I haven't opened her yet, but will do that in the next couple of days to see if she is rusty or mouldy.

It looks like agemarks which this pony is very prone to unfortunately. I don't think there is anything you can do for her.

Yeah, unfortunately this is very common with this particular pony. The only thing you could do to cover the discoloration would be a full-body repaint. :/

I would just reiterate -- open her up and see if you can clean out her inside, and go over her body with a magic eraser. If none of that helps, there may be nothing else you can do as that's probably from ageing. I'm kinda in awe of how remarkably aged she is -- it's almost like a work of art.

I haven't tried this myself, but I've seen it so wonders for ponies who normally burn during sunfading. A hydrogen peroxide soak may possibly help Gingerbread, but I can't day for sure. I have seen it turn a dirty, brown Gingerbread back to white with almost no spots. Just be sure to cover the eyes and symbols just like normal sunfading.

Wow - I've never seen Gingerbread with discolouration or spots to THAT extent! I'd be curious to hear what her innards are like as well. I wonder what she might have come into contact with? Could something external have caused that?

Echoing the "open her up" comments. If she's not messy on the inside, your options are limited. My Gingerbread was pretty bad when she came to me (not quite as bad as yours, though) and I ended up mixing paint to match her whiter spots and airbrushing her over the brown bits. You'd never know by looking at her now.

I had a Gingerbread with discoloration like that.  I assumed it was because of plastic breakdown because her body also felt slightly tacky, no matter how many times I cleaned her.
