Blossom, Cotton Candy, Peachy
« on: January 04, 2017, 04:49:44 AM »
Hello!
I have doubts regarding these three ponies and their colour. I'm not sure if they are variations or faded.
Help me, please!!

What does the stamping on the bottom of the feet say?

Are they flat foot, or concave foot? China or Hong Kong? Perhaps its a Year 1 vs Year 2 thing? Or maybe some were just left outside more and faded. I know there is a lot of shade variation with these gals in general.

Batch/aging differences.  Blossom often fades to that yellowish-tan, Cotton Candy goes peach, and Peachy goes grey sometimes.  All of them are likely due to degradation of the dyes and/or yellowing of the vinyl.

All of them are from Hong Kong and same year (same pony).

I will keep only one of every pair, which would you choose? Right ponies?

I think if it were me I would choose the ones that have the less discoloration, mold ect... so it would be right, left, right. the ones with the brighter or deeper colors.

The two CCs are different releases maybe - slightly different splotch shapes, front leg shape is a tad different too. But there are so many and no two seem to be the same, this is how a CC army starts :D I would keep the second Blossom and Peachy and both the CCs. This is why I have lots of CCs. :D

I'd keep right, left, right. The other three have discolouration.

The more vibrant blossoms and cotton candies were the ones re-released with bow tie and co. And Mail Order! They tend to fade though like others said. The more pale ones were the first releases of cc feet. Both your blossoms look like first releases, and both your cotton candies look like second releases!

I'm with stormness right, left, right!

Thanks for all your anwers.
I agree about Peachy and Blossom, but not sure regarding Cotton Candy. If one of them is faded I think that it's the one on the right.

What really makes me doubt is I see their eyes are pretty different.

Cotton Candy should be pink, not peach, so yes the one on the right is damaged.

Sun is not the only thing that can change a pony's colour.  It can be environmental exposure, other chemicals, UV, breakdown of the plastic itself, poor storage conditions, or a combination thereof.  Sun is just the most common culprit, not the only one.  I would say your girl is 'yellowed' more than 'faded'.

I'm not getting involved in the discolouration element of the discussion because I see that word used far too often for ponies that are simply batch different and not variants but not damaged excessively either. It's a term that needs to be applied with caution.

However, the two peachy you have are from different years I think. From your image it looks like the one on the left has the wider spaced hair plugs, lank hair and the symbol is larger. The one on the right has closer threaded hair that is better shaped and a more vibrant colour, and a slightly smaller symbol.

There's no value difference between these versions but these differences are obviously not caused by discolouration (see above caveat that this term is used too much as a catchall to explain pony differences). Peachy was out for several years in many countries and so was constantly in production. So you end up with variations from the factory.

Peachy is really common so as I said, neither of them are going to be worth much or more than each other for that difference. But their difference is not to do with discolouration or fading. It's to do with their batch.

I'm not one who to ask which to keep. I have armies of all the CP ponies, so I would keep them all. lol
