Fixing Waterfall Playset
« on: December 26, 2016, 01:05:02 PM »
I have had my Waterfall playset for a while but for the past few years the shower cloud has started to get really droopy. Has anyone else had this and succefully fixed it at all? I'm thinking of gluing a supporting strut to the back of it but interested to see if anyone else has another solution.

Has the clip inside the cloud broken/cracked at all? I have had several Waterfalls in the past where that's happened because of the weight of the cloud, so you might want to check that first...

Could you use removable ties of some kind rather than glue at all?

I'm genuinely not sure what kind of glue would fix the clip effectively but if you are worried about it getting worse in the meantime I advise carefully taking the cloud off the rainbow before the clip breaks off inside the cloud (if you can). It can be extracted from within the cloud but believe me, it's a pain to do. You probably would have to dismantle the waterfall to take the cloud off without making the crack worse.

Hopefully someone else will have a suggestion about what would work well to fix it before it gets worse. It's something that often happens to the waterfall rainbow at both the cloud clip and the base clips (so worth checking them as well while you're at it!) It might be there's something you can do to reinforce these before they break apart completely.

You will want to use 2 part Apoxy. It's a type of glue that comes in 2 separate tubes, you squirt it out & mix the 2 substances together, and they create a strong bond. I have fixed 3 cracked Waterfall play sets (including my childhood one which cracked in the same way as yours) and it holds up well with that type of plastic. Remove the cloud & completely remove the rainbow/sun piece from the base. Spread glue on both sides of the cracked piece, press together & hold for a few minutes, then let it dry over night sitting upright so the cracked piece does not slip out of place.

Brilliant, thank you I shall give that a go (probably amidst much swearing as I try and get the cloud off :D )

I used model glue and a straw to hold it in position while it was drying.  Once it was dry I removed the straw.  It'll never be very sturdy though.

Thank you, that's a great idea for keeping it steady :) I'll be cracking on with this (excuse the pun) when I can get out to get some glue. Will let everyone know how I get on.

Good luck! The waterfall is such a pretty playset, but so annoyingly delicate. I gave up trying to display mine, they're both dismantled and boxed away somewhere in the attic. Sigh.

Ooo that's great advice!  Mine is cracked (actually broke right off) in the same place.  When I unpack it at some point I'll have to try that!

So is mine.  When I get it out I'd like to make some sort of support for it.
