I'm sorry if I offended anyone.

I personally wouldn't sell them if I got them, but hearing what you have both just said, I will try to buy out of box ponies of the pre-G4s (it's difficult for the G4s, especially as all of them have so far been given to me), seeing as there are people who would want the pony to stay in box when they got them, and they would go out of stock at least temporarily one day - I understand it was wrong of me to think like this, so I will try to get only loose ponies, so the boxed ponies can stay that way for people who like them so.

Thanks, I never looked at it that way before.
I will confess to being a brony, but I assure you that the things you may not like about them do not apply to me, I mostly keep the fandom name due to nostaligia, but I do genuinely love MLP as a whole, not just FIM, and not just the popularity of FIM - I genuinely love the show (and all the others)

Oh, you didn't offend me! Don't worry. I hope you didn't take offense in what I said, because I really didn't mean to step on anyone's toes.
I just worry a lot about things, and I'm glad I could put a point of view out there you hadn't considered before!  Because I really feel like there's no point in buying past gen ponies if you're just going to unbox them to put on display when it's SO much easier/cheaper to get a nice/mint condition pony already out of box, and leave the boxed ones for us who like collecting boxed ones :)
If it's a current gen, I really see no problem in opening them. You can still get them, so there's like... atm a huge supply of boxed g4 ponies. And more will come, so there's nothing to worry about there.
As soon as a line goes out of production, however, it's another story.

Thanks for considering what I said

I'm a very tactile person so I'm definitely an out of box kind of girl for the most part!  So rather than have a MOC/MIB pony, I'd rather have the out of the box one so I can brush its hair, take photos, put it by my computer when I'm working, etc. I do appreciate the beauty of the packaging, especially G1 backcard art, but for me I wouldn't want to pay the extra money for a MOC pony since, even though it is pretty, I'd get more out of owning the out of box one.  That being said, if I by some miracle found a MOC/MIB G1 at a thrift store or flea market, I'd keep it in the box.  I have, however, unboxed G3s that I've been given over the past few years (if I had bought them myself, I'd have gone with out of box to start with).  They're new enough and plentiful enough (since by the time G3 rolled around the concept of keeping toys in the box because of value was more common) that I don't feel bad about it.

I'm also a model horse collector, and my views are similar in regard to them.  To quote another collector, "I collect horses not boxes."  For Breyer horses, only certain types of packaging really add value to models, and in some cases boxes can even detract value because collectors worry about hidden flaws on the side they can't see if they were to take them out of the box.  I do keep some of the boxes for limited horses, and I have started collecting vintage picture boxes lately (not really MIB horses, though, more the horse WITH the box, but not in it).  Granted, I do have two MIB Breyers.  One has a box that's more like a pretty diorama, and a lot of people I talked to said that they regretted taking theirs out.  So I bought an out of box one, too, and now I have the best of both worlds  :P.  The other MIB one if a Breyer North Star Pony.  They're pretty uncommon, and have been out of production for quite some time.  I randomly found one at a store, and I've kept him in the box for the moment just because of how unusual he is.  I do want to remove him for photos, ect., but I just can't make up my mind.  So in the box he stays for now.

I love both  Loose and MIB/MOC ponies , specially G2s :)
I would say if you buy a MOC/ MIB or loose, or if you are going to open them to display, just take care of them in whatever fashion you want, I would love MIB to Stay that way ,but many that Have been kept MIB do get damage at the end, Fading, Exposure to heat, storing them in a way that they are not going to be preserved is worst than opening them as well , I have bought many real MIB/MOC G2s and some have been damaged , I did have to open a couple in the past to clean them after obviously they were stored with exposure to sun and/or heat.
so with owning comes the right to do what you want with them and also the duty of preserving them and taking care of them.
I have bought opened mocs or pretty much new and complete with their back card and they go to display cabinets to be admired , I buy not so perfect ones too and they go with me the lake ,beach , trips :)

I personnally only collect loose ponies.I like to touch them and brush their hair, i collect them to feel them and not to see boxes. But i wouldn't even think to unbox a MOC G1, for two reasons:I could find a loose one easier and cheaper, and i was born in 2000 and didn't liked mlp when i was young:unboxing a g1 wouldn't have any nostalgic feeling that would justify it.If i find a Moc in the wild, i would either keep her or sell her to get a loose one.

I prefer my ponies loose, but I wouldn't open a MIB pony just for my preferences. I'd leave the pony MIB and trade for a loose one. That way, everyone's happy!
This! MIB ponies are so rare, why would you spend the money to buy one MIB and then open it?! When you do that you're just removing one more option that someone could have had to get a pony MIB. Of course, this argument doesn't matter with the current gen... yet. Open away with those. :)
