Things You Haven't Changed In 30 Years . . .
« on: September 05, 2016, 08:13:46 PM »
The only thing in my life that has never changed is how I set up my MLP playsets.  I've been putting the furniture in the Paradise Estate and the Lullaby Nursery the exact same way since I first got them as a kid.  Sometimes I add cute little accessories I find from other toy lines that look good with them, but the core pony furniture never budges.

I'm cleaning and setting up my pony room just so right now.  I'm almost finished but I ran into a conundrum today.  My nursery has ALWAYS sat to the right of the Paradise Estate.  No matter where they have traveled, when they were set out, that's where it went.  It's kind of annoying that spot in the room they're in now, as it sits right in front of the closet and I have to move everything to open the door.

So, after deliberating for what is probably kind of an obsessive amount of time, I moved the nursery to the RIGHT of the Paradise Estate and . . .

. . . it actually looks pretty good.  The move opens the room up nicely and leaves more floor space open for playing.

What have you refused to change with your ponies for as long as you've had them?

Whenever I played with ponies as a child or now as an adult with my daughter I HAVE to brush and tidy their hair before and after playtime.
It drove my sister nuts as a child and now it drives my daughter nuts. Goes for dolls too.
And I tend to become distracted while playing,  by other ponies whose hair is a mess, I start switching ponies as we play so that I can fix the hair.......

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who does this... Except I would always find an excuse to borrow someone's doll while playing to fix it's hair.

I originally found my NBT Sticky and Sniffles years ago in a Fisher Price dollhouse crib at a thrift store early into my collecting days.  They looked so cute in their crib that I put them in the Lullabye Nursery that way.

And that's the way they've lived, ever since. It's their crib, after all.  :)

I don't have anything overly longstanding, but I got G4 Lily Blossom in January 2015 as a gift and she's had a special spot ever since we got home. She sits on the edge of our tall dresser, next to the window. So close in fact that the only sliver of sunlight that gets in the room washes over her every day. But only one side of her!

I know its going to end up fading half her body (if it hasn't already) and that kind of bugs me. But that's her spot! I can't move her now. She probably likes the sunlight! Haha.

LOL you guys aren't the only ones!! As a child, my neighbor friend (who had TONS of ponies, possibly more than me? I remember being envious of all of the beautiful ponies she had, especially the Prom Queen Sweetheart Sisters!) would INSIST we fix their hair before playing, and I sort of followed along. At the time I felt bad, since my ponies' hair was so snarly, but now I look back on it as an adult, and remember all of the poofy, frizzy-haired ponies being brushed over and over again, including ponies with ringlets having them brushed out from root to tip... XD;;

For myself, gosh, I don't know! I tend to keep them in the same mental 'families' as I did when I was a kid; so when I see people talking about "oh, Star Hopper is the mommy to ...," my inner monologue always pops up with "Um, Star Hopper is a BOY, thank you!" XD Most of my ponies are in bins for the majority of the time, so I never had a chance to really get their position "locked in" per se!

I don't think I have any pony rituals or antics that stayed the same (though there are many non-pony things that never changed). But a couple of months ago I was organising my ponies in a tub, and I was basically sitting amidst a big pile of ponies. My mother had a flashback, and I'm not so sure she liked it. XD

What I haven't changed for thirty years?

Probably having ponies around xD. Had my first one in 1984, still have them all now...plus more. I never really gave that up. Even when mine went away when I began secondary school, I still played with my sister and hers, so I don't think I ever really stopped.

In that time I moved a lot, gained ponies, changed hairstyles of ponies, etc etc. But I still have the ponies I had then, so that would be my thing.

Also, my Lullabye Nursery still says BAFY on the front. Because child me didn't get the thing every other young girl got and put the labels on the panels wrong. And didn't realise until sister got her second hand one, at which point there was no changing it without wrecking it.

So I still have a BAFY nursery. And all my childhood ponies. And a love for ponies in general, 30 years on :)

I wasn't alive thirty years ago so this is a pretty tough question for me.

I'm not quite thirty yet but one thing I've been doing with my ponies since I've been a child is storing them in plastic ice cream tubs.  Like the gallon Ice cream. They're cheap, not too heavy, have little handles and you get to eat all that ice cream before hand. xD Probably not the best storage method but I keep them in my room and take them out often... I'm not using them for kind of deep/ long-term storage.

My ponies, and everything else, has to be brushed to perfection, displayed at specific angles, all clean, and in the appropriate outfit. I don't change anything often, with the glaring exception of my furniture arrangement. I like to change that at least once a year. I have a background in interior design. Specifically staging houses for sale. I like artful displays and no clutter.

Of all my childhood ponies, the only one whose official name I knew was Majesty (not sure how, as I never had any of the comics or books) so all of the other ponies had not-particularly-imaginative names given to them - Posey was 'Tulips', Baby Up Up and Away was 'Balloons', Sleepy Head was 'PJs' and so on. I still like to give my ponies unique names, although a little more thought goes into them nowadays! XD

Well, I'm 32 so I can't say I had a pony ritual at two years old.  I actually didn't get my first pony until I was around 4 or 5 I think.  I only had a few as a kid, then gave them away before I moved.  I didn't start buying ponies again until sometime in my early 20's.  First it was G3's then I started buying G1's again.  Once I had two different generations of ponies I've always had this ritual of keeping the generations separate.  Sometimes I didn't have enough shelf space to do so though, but I tried.
