Dry, stubborn frizz?
« on: September 12, 2016, 10:38:16 AM »
So I have a few ponies that have frizz I just wasn't able to remove (particularly a g3 Minty with tinsel - I've noticed tinsel hair in poor condition is always dry and hard to tame!), and was wondering if any of you had encountered similar problems? I've tried conditioner, boiling, everything, but their hair still remains dry and very frizzy, even though it looks relatively tame. Is there anything that can be done about this, or should I just braid her hair and call it a day? thank you!!

A lot of people use flat irons on low heat to straighten tinsel and hair. It has to be wet and covered in conditioner. Most people swear by it. There should be a tutorial for it.

I tried it once on a fakie and melted the hair, but the hair was really poor quality and the flat iron I used didn't have a low setting.

I prefer to use a hand held steam cleaner with a tiny jet nozzle. It wont straighten tinsel as its not hot enough. I use lots of conditioner, a round bristle brush and slowly spin the brush as I steam it. It doesn't get hot enough to melt the hair. Ive also used it to (boil) steam perm. Do Not use it on a so soft as it will take the fur right off.
When I`m done I like to lay the hair out flat and lay something heavy on the hair, like a phone book. Just in case there are some wild hairs that want to go kinky.

When I put conditioner in their hair I wrap it in a paper towel. I also leave conditioner in the hair for weeks or redo it if it's really stubborn. I am getting good results.

I haven't worked with tinsel yet, but my Flower Dreams had ridiculously frizzy hair.

She had about 8 weeks of conditioning total before I went to the hair straightener. I did that on low heat, conditioner slathered everywhere, and used a clean flea comb right in front of the straightener. It worked wonderfully to pull the teeny tiny bent pieces of hair straight that were causing her frizzies and then keep them that way.
