Washing so softs and flocked critters
« on: July 02, 2016, 06:00:16 PM »
I thought I would wash the little litters from the lot I got and some of the flocked ponies I have that the flocking is nice but they are dirty. I've never really washed a flocked creature. I usually buy them in bad shape and then rip their flocking out. I tend to scrub them up with Oxiclean and get off what I can and then later acetone if that doesn't get it.

It's an odd question but how do you clean a so soft when trying to clean it, clear up spots on it but not destroy the flocking? What do you use and such?

That's funny I saw this post, because I was going to ask a similar question.  Can you get yellowed flocking white again?

I use oxyclean spray and a damp washcloth. None of our so softs look as good as new, but they are nice and clean.

Usually when it's yellow it's not the flocking but the glue that holds the flocking yellowing over time. I don't think there is anything you can do about that, but I could be wrong.

I wet my flocked ponies with cold water and sprinkle oxiclean on them and gently massage it in. Rinse well. Then I shampoo and condition their flocking as well. Remember to use cold water so you don't loosen the glue. It's worked pretty well so far:

I've had pretty good luck with shampooing the flocking!  Usually I gently rub it in and rinse it out then repeat a few times, mostly focusing on the especially grungy looking areas after the first rinse or two.  Then I condition the flocking, too.  I have a Gusty who looked pretty dingy before I cleaned her, but now she's bright white with really thick gorgeous flocking.  Granted, really tough spots don't seem to come out very well.  I got a super dirty Angel in a lot last year and I cleaned her super carefully and tried my best to get all of the dirty spots off her flocking but she still looks a bit rough around the edges.  Granted, she's way better now than she was coming out of the box, but she's far from perfect.  Maybe I'll take a crack at her with the Oxiclean idea.  She's such a pretty pony I'd love to bring her back to her former glory.

I use a soft toothbrush to scrub with anitbacterial soft soap. this works well for dirt and playwear....if the glue is yellowed there's not much you can do... I've heard oxiclean can take off the flocking so I haven't tried it, but those pics are stunning of before/after twilight

I accidentally put my daughter's Scrumptious in the wash, not knowing she was there. Came out clean as a whistle with no flocking damage. Wouldn't recommend it on purpose.  >_<
