short guide to flocking
« on: June 21, 2016, 03:16:51 AM »

some one was asking about this a few weeks back.
and im not sure if there is a tutorial  for how to use a flocking gun  up yet so  I've made one of my own
on my  toy box blog

link below for any one who might be interested.

http://pyroannystoybox.tumblr.com/post/146250957008/a-quick-guide-to-flocking

the flocking gun that I use is available on ebay  and costs around $30.
it is a dangerous tool tho so care should be taken when using it.

in this tutorial I am using nail art flocking fibers but any sort of flocking can be used with a gun like this.

Wow. This looks like a lot of work. Thank you so much for taking the time of breaking the process down and posting it. I re-shared it on tumblr  :good:

Oooh, I've been waiting to see flocking guns used on ponies! Thank you!

Have you ever tries to flock a whole one? How does it compare to an original so soft in texture?

Also may I reccomend using a very thin coat of spray adhesive? I'm not sure if it had any adverse reactions with vinyl but if it doesn't, it's a good way to quickly put a very thin coat of glue on an object to be flocked. Hold the can far from the pony and mist.

i'll be posting my finished custom here when shes done  she will be fully flocked.
the fibers  that are most readily available are  a lot shorter than the factory so softs.
the only longer fibers Ive ever come across have been the  fake grass stuff for table top models and the fibers them selves have a much more coarse feeling to them as they are meant to simulate turff.

but you can get a nice even coating  using the  static gun.

the end texture is  more like velvet.

I haven't used spray adheasive but ive used  a number of diffrent glues from mod podge to  tacky craft glue.
they all yeid similar finishes.

so far the pest fibers to use have been the ones from   foul flocking .com   /  craft flocking. com .

the nail art fibers I got recently  turned out to be a bit too short.
