Rehair Help? Tips? Suggestions? Anything?
« on: June 15, 2016, 02:32:54 PM »
Hey there guys!

So this is the first time I've ever tried to rehair a pony, I've watched some tutorials on youtube and such but I was just wondering if anyone had any experience rehairing a Summer Wing pony? I honestly didn't realize how tiny they were in comparison to other ponies, as this is the first time I've ever seen one in person. XD

I got her as a gift for a friend (purchased her from the super sweet @LittleSparklePony actually) 'cause this pony was her favorite as a kid but she lost it (and many other things) in a fire and I wanted to surprise her for her birthday (lol which was in February - I am a horrible slow person) BUT!!! Yeah.

I am super worried about harming her little delicate wings...??? D:
Does anyone have any pointers for me? ;n;
I just wanna make it super pretty for my friend. ;;;O;;;

Just took a picture of her outside. XD
She got a haircut so I wanted to rehair her and give her fancy pretty new hair.
I already bought the doll hair and I bought a rehairing tool and stuff.

I'm just super worried about tearing her or ruining those wings. D:

Thank you in advance!

If her neck seal has already been broken, it might not be a bad idea to remove her head while rehairing so that you would know her wings would not get crushed or anything during the process. They are small, but I've rehaired teeny tiny newborns before without too much difficulty so size shouldn't really be too much of an issue, also make sure that you don't use too large of plugs. If you're like me when you separate the hair, odds are you will have close to twice as much hair in each plug as you need, but rehairing is definitely a learning process and it's one of those things that is easier to learn by doing.

Her neck seal is not broken. How do I break it gently? XD;;; *JUST SO WORRIED*

Maybe I should try rehairing my other pony first before tackling this one.
Then I'll at least have done one before working on the more important one.

Also I read that you can soak them in hot water and that'll loosen the glue, I guess I'm just worried about her wings loosening too. I wanted to give her a new tail too so I'd HAVE to soak the whole body. *just armflails*

Sorry for being so nervous. XD
I just want it to be perfect for my friend. ;o;

Really to get her old mane out you're probably going to have to behead her anyway which is something you're gonna want to be careful about. One good thing about these ponies being so old a lot of the time the glue holding on their heads has lost a bit of it's strength which makes beheading them a bit easier. G3s are a nightmare when it comes to glue. Sometimes with G1s just attempting to turn her head from side to side will loosen it enough that you can remove it.
Rehairing the other one might be a good idea so that you at least have some practice before starting on the one you want to be a gift.
Once her head is off, getting her tail out should be super easy so there is some good news. :D :P
When you actually get to the rehairing process I recommend putting some music or the telly on because it will take a while, especially when just starting out.

I think I'll leave her as is and work on the other pone before I tackle this one though. <3

Thank you very much, TwistedRiver~ ;u;!

You're welcome! When I first started it was long before I joined the arena and I was searching all over the internet to find any and all info that I could, so I'm glad that I was able to help. Good luck on your rehairing, be sure to share pics when you are done and also mark your pony as a rehair somehow (lots just use RH marked on the bottom of one of the hooves) so that years from now it won't be mistaken for a variant or factory job.
