I have to admit that its one of the anime that people have tried to get me into watching. It has no appeal for me, too stylised, so I haven't seen more than odd random clips, but I think its very much a personal thing whether it's appropriate or not. Western media tends to censor more than the East anyway - there are numerous examples of badly cut about anime dubs in the nineties which remove the controversial elements, though I suspect this won't happen for Shingeki no Kyojin.

One of the issues is which dub or subtitle you follow, too. I forget about this quite often now until I see people discussing or debating the level of obscene language in a dub or something, because Japanese doesn't use swear words, and so different translations sometimes add swear words for emphasis, and some don't. I didn't see anything in the clips I saw that I considered dodgy linguistically, but it depends how it's translated. I find English translations often sensationalise, especially fan translations. Official translations are often pretty vague to the original because of cultural equivalents, but some fan translator groups are notorious for shoving in beefed up language, graphical comments and such that are not in the original and retain none of the original sense. Good example of this was Dattebayo's version of Bleach about 7 or 8 years ago.

Online fandoms in anime are basically 'buyer beware'. I generally believe none of them are really suited to teenagers, and it has nothing to do with the content of the anime, but the content of the vocal minority of unpleasant people that migrate into them and decide to then twist around everything to their own personal fantasy. To this end, I suggest gently encouraging her away from the fanfiction realm as well. Fanfic is fine, but IMO more potentially damaging than the original series if you accidentally hit the wrong author.

I've heard Shingeki no Kyojin is quite graphic, but I would agree that it's not graphic gore but ideology that might come up as question. Shingeki no Kyojin is one of those quickly gaining popularity in the way of series and such, and therefore it's likely that kids are going to watch it because it's easy to get hold of online and such. So I would think it's safer to agree to let her watch it and even watch it with her to discuss problematic themes, as someone above suggested. It's the kind of series that is probably better permitted with guidance rather than banned when she's already got a means of watching it outside of your protection.
