pony photography tips? (+ show me your photos!)

hey guys!! I'd really like to do more with my ponies (and my lone BJD!); ive tried taking them outside for pictures but they never seem to come out right! I actually know next to nothing about photography though haha. so what kind of setting is your favorite place to take photos? what lighting is best? what kind of camera do you use? thanks so much for the help!!
