Lovely customs! Wow you have some great ideas--love seeing a custom of Tickle! But are they harder to re-hair since the plastic is so hard?

The heads are exactly the same as the normal G4 heads, so rehairing can use any process that you normally would.  The tails are a little trickier, but I do have a tutorial with pictures in the Customs section that shows how to disassemble them and give them new tails.

Oh, interesting, I didn't realize their heads were the same as on other ponies.

I love your customs, they're adorable!

Hasbro is known by Transformers collectors to have morbidly inconsistent packaging photography.  Often Transformer packaging is  photoshopped or obsvous prototype footage or actually transformed and posed wrong.  Many times the coloring will be different or the photo will show fictitious metallic or sparkles parts.  We have an entire thread about it on tfw.

It truly is false advertising- but Habsro can't be bothered.  They slap "actual product may vary from photos" on the back and call it good.

She looks better with bangs like in the photo.  That is sort of like the Photo Finish figure they made.  The figure had a completely different dress than her signature outfit in the photo, I wanted a signature version but it was fine, I still got it.

MGA is right famous for this too. There were some Novi Stars that had articulation in the box pics but not the doll.

Weren't there some G1s that didn't match the pamphlet? (I'd say backcard but I think those just had pretty watercolor art of the different ponies)

Show Whizzer had red, green, blue and purple hair. Pity my Whizzer is so nice, or I'd have her like that.

Any pony with neon yellow/green hair had this duller, light green in the show. Lickety-split is often portrayed as lavender with pink hair. Sunrise Song is purple on her card instead of pink.

I thought I would weigh in my two cents on these guys, because while I absolutely love them personally, I can understand why so many people don't.  First of all, the box pictures are usually taken of the prototype -- this is pretty standard practice, not just with Hasbro, but with Mattel and other major toy manufacturers as well -- that's why the pictures online tend to be quite different from what you get sometimes.  They're hand painted, rehaired in-house etc. so in the worst case (like some recent G4 releases), the pictures of the ponies on the box end up looking far superior.  The articulated ponies themselves end up being not so nice (especially the hair quality), and overall come across as a very unfinished product.

That being said, if you like crafty stuff, customs, and/or dioramas, these guys are fantastic!  You can do very expressive things with the range of motion that you just can't normally.  Here are a couple of examples:

Here's a picture of my Coco Pommel with a custom I made of G1 Tickle -- Coco is the basic pony, not even any haircuts, but I made her a tie and restyled her hair with some paper roses, and to me she looks much cuter now.

Here's a custom of G1 Wind Whistler with a full outfit I made for her.  The dress also works well to hide the joints if you're not a big fan of those.

And here are two other customs that are finished but desperately need hair styling  - G1 Blueberry Baskets with a custom baskets (of blueberries) and my joint-dyeing test subject named Lynette.

To me, they feel like they have a lot more personality, but it takes more work than traditional ponies do also.  I can understand why many people don't seem to like them, but I feel like they offer a lot of promise.

Fantastic photos.

They're not the only company who does that. Grand Champions in their hey-day sometimes had a promo picture of a horse in the wrong pose, or with different paint jobs. Like Silver Streak in the running stallion pose when he's actually in the Classic pose, or Smooth Moves as a standard red chestnut with brown hair, when she's much lighter and has strawberry blonde hair.

Unfortunately, Hasbro's hair quality has gotten worse and worse in the g4s as the years have gone by. My 2011 ponies have really soft and manageable manes and tails, while the bunch from 2014-2015 have frizzy, scratchy tails and somewhat cheaper manes.

with my coco, it seems they just stopped caring altogether about hair quality and put the crappy tail hair into the heads to save money. phooey.

I managed to make mine look nice, though, by washing her hair with globs of conditioner AND shampoo and then running it under hot, hot water. Im not sure if that's recommended (I just started collecting a little under a year ago) but it at least looks ok :)

Oh yes, the falsely advertised pics and prototype images that looked nothing like the actual pony used to bug me during the G3 era as well. >_< I really wish HB still made ponies with bangs -- they're absolutely the cutest!
Lovely photos by the way, Alipes!
