it does look like a metal ring, but the water doesn't reach there because it's blocked off (at least, on my luna, and i'd hope it's the same for all the others)

also, my luna (theres the normal luna behind her, but water luna kept falling over when i tried to get them both in equal shot sooo)

The tail is in a sealed spot where the water will not get to (or else there would be no water because it would leak out XD It's held with a small metal clip and the ends on the inside have a tiny amount of glue
