I rarely see the mistakes. I'm too busy being an excited little kid again.

This for me too :) Its just about enjoying the cartoon...I can happily overlook any errors.

I see the mistakes and love it all the more for them. The quirks are part of the magic for me. It's the same for me with all old cartoons. There are a couple of really hilarious animation moments in the Jem series, too, and it's precious.

It's because for me modern MLP and modern toys in general, and TV shows, and everything are too polished and perfect and not real enough. I liked the fact that these weren't perfect, because people aren't perfect either.

Plus who doesn't want to see one pony turn into another one randomly? :D

I have more issues with some of the characterisations, though, because of the clashes with the comics.

The issue with the animation was the same faced by many in the 80's.  The Real Ghostbusters DVD collection actually described the joy that was the animation process.  Animation scripts were written up in the U.S. and shipped to Japan and Korea where they had to be translated and handed over the staff at Toei and AKOM.  Then they had to animate everything by hand which was hard enough.  Then film was airmailed to the U.S. for quality checks, and if they had any complaints, they had to airmail them back to Asia for them to be done over again.  The quality control process was so costly and time-consuming, they let a lot of errors slide because correcting them wasn't worth it.

As for the Glass Princess, it's completely garbage.  I declared it the worst episode of G1 MLP when I reviewed the series.  It's boring, stupid, and insulting.  Basically everything bad My Little Pony is accused of being is from this episode aside from tea parties because there was never a tea party in this series.

Nonsense! Through the Door and The Ice Cream Wars were the worst of the bunch.

Through the Door was a bad car accident and the Ice Cream Wars was a Trump Rally.  "The Glass Princess" was like watching a adorable little puppy being drowned and "The End of Flutter Valley" was a zombie.

The End of Flutter Valley did drag on. I remember watching it as a kid and getting really bored, then getting up to go play.

Ice Cream Wars was a seminal part of my childhood. It is a terrible episode with a very silly plotline, but I won't hear a word against it as it is a huge part of my nostalgia xD. For ages the only pony eps I had as a kid were Ice Cream Wars and Revolt of PE, so I have special feeling for both of them!

(Although Revolt of PE was much better and my favourite...)

Flight to Cloud Castle had the worst moral, as the female elf was guilted into dating the whiny, vindictive male elf who had just threatened to let her and the ponies die because she didn't instantly jump into his arms.  Surely written by a not-so-nice "Nice Guy".

But if we're talking worst in terms of "this is torture to watch", it's got to be the Gizmonks episode.  Stupid plot and the worst song of the entire series.

The Great Rainbow Caper is a guilty pleasure of mine.  They make a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy reference.

I think Michael Reaves was trying to strike a middle ground between her just falling for her rescuer and leaving him in the dust.  Unfortunately Garth's behavior really doesn't justify her even considering a relationship.  Though, the two were already arguing like a married couple.

Ariel:  You didn't land the castle before you woke me?!
Garth:  Give me a break!  I was busy!

So, maybe they click on some odd level.

I found interactions between Heart Throb, Locket, and Twilight; the fact almost all of the episode happened in the air; and the use of elemental familiars to be the true highlights of that episode.  Michael Reaves gave the world of the ponies a much more exotic and expansive feel.  Something I wish existed in the current staff.

If we're going to talk about animation errors, let's point out what I like to call "accidental alicorns!"

Or in Truly + Cupcakes' cases- accidental pegasi.

Other thing I hate about the G1 cartoons: the way the baby ponies talk.
NOBODY talks in broken English like that, not even little kids! "Ok, me try?!"
C'mon.

I think Michael Reaves was trying to strike a middle ground between her just falling for her rescuer and leaving him in the dust.

But there is literally no reason for her not to leave him in the dust.  She never agreed to the Sleeping Beauty set up (it was her father's idea) and Garth is some delusional stranger who thinks she's his "true love" even though she has never met him before, ever.

They made a point of Porcina being selfish, but at least she wasn't like "Okay ponies, I turned against the Raptorians and saved you.  Now I demand that you all join my harem because you OWE ME. And if you don't then you are horrible and ungrateful."

Actually, once they were on the ground and Garth had a chance to think about it clearly, he was willing to just walk away empty-handed if that was what Ariel wanted.  It was Heart Throb who insisted, and all she said is she's open to the possibility.

What we missed in the Flight To Cloud Castle was the song that the ponies must have sang to Ariel and everyone before they walked off, because that was too quick. I'm very sure there was supposed to be a song but it some how got cut out, which I wish I had that part taped on my childhood tapes like the Hurry song on Glass Princess.

I LOVE the Rainbow Caper, which doesn't take a genius to figure out why XD

Omg wow! I like that idea of the three and the pig being brothers and sister and that whole idea of it being in the real world! XD I do think the cutting hair part is the reason my childhood Surprise has her bangs/for lock cut, heh!

I love all the episodes but sadly not Ice Cream Wars T.T never knew that episode existed until early 2000's so I never had the nastolgic reason to enjoy it D=

There probably was a song. I have some Jem episode scripts (also Sunbow) and there are songs cited in there, some repeats and some other, that got cut out. One song appears on a first year doll tape even though it got cut from the episode and didn't appear till season 2. We all guessed where it belonged in the animation, and, sure enough, it's there in the script...

Since it's the same company, both animating and toy production, it seems likely that there was a planned song that got cut either in script stages or in production. Just, because MLP didn't come with song cassettes, and the script writers are not in contact generally with the fandom...we will probably never know.

(Though I think Christy may have written a pony ep. I ought to ask her if she has any information on the pony series, even though she wasn't a bible creator so maybe wouldn't...)

The MLP writer's guide was all about having a song in each episode, even to make a "on the previous episode" breaks if there was a second or more parts to a story.

Man I wish I could have some scripts to the MLP show, that would be awesome!

But yeah, I want to know the second cloud castle song and the one Megan was about to sing in the second Tambelon episode T.T because you know she was about to do one cause it started to get hopeful then suddenly nothing.

The though tof those cut songs drives me crazy.. they have to be out there somewhere... especially the one from Tambelon! It builds up SO MUCH and then it just skips to the next scene.. @_@; And don't even get me started on "Hurry" - why the heck did they cut that?!

I like G1 for what it is, errors and all :) Sure, it may not have the best writing or be as "polished" as, say, FiM, but it's so much *fun*, haha.
