Can anyone identify this pony? (By description only)
« on: February 06, 2016, 05:44:00 PM »
Hello everyone! I'm new to the forum! Check out my intro in the Intro forum :)

One of the main reasons I joined is because I've been searching unsuccessfully for years for a specific pony that my sister and I only owned for three hours as kids (summer of 1989). A family friend - we can't remember who - visited our house and brought this pony, with no packaging, and gave it to us.

It was very unusual, enough for us to think that maybe it was a Fakie. But its uniqueness is what made it so cool! We played for hours in our front yard with it, until suddenly this strange dog ran into the yard and scooped up that pony, of all things, and ran off with it! We chased the dog, but it got out of our sight. When we finally caught up with it, it had run back to its owner and had dropped the pony somewhere along the way. The owner took no responsibility and just left with his dog. My sister and i searched until dark and never found the pony.

If possible, I'd LOVE to find this pony again and surprise my sister with it as a gift. I searched through every MLP database I could find online and never found it. Here are the specs:

Body type: regular (not a unicorn, not a pegasus)
Size: slightly larger than a baby pony. Around the size of a flutter pony.
Colour: medium gray. Definitely an unusual MLP colour, so if it is MLP brand, then it shouldn't be that hard to find online. This is why I think it's a fakie.
Emblem: we're both almost certain that it's an umbrella. If not, then it's definitely to do with rain (clouds, raindrops, etc)
Hair: rainbow

If anyone has any info about this mystery pony, I'd be eternally grateful. If you can produce a photo, I may fly to your city and kiss you. Find one for sale, and I don't know what I'll do. Probably drop dead with joy :D

That's an interesting story. The only ponies who vaguely resemble the description are Sunlight and Parasol, but they aren't gray and are too large to be Flutter-sized.

Hmm, now that's an odd one. I don't know much about fakies myself but the closest I found was a Remco pony but those ponies didn't have symbols.
http://the-fakie-hideout.weebly.com/the-fakie-guide.html I'd say check this site and while you likely won't find the exact pony it may have a fakie brand that is similar and may spark your memory some more?
You said it was unique so I'm thinking it might differ from a hasbro body type. Hopefully you'll have some luck!

I immediately thought of a grey Remco with rainbow hair as well.  They did come with a rainbow charm necklace thing. :)

Wow, thank you guys for your help!

Bekuno, I hadn't seen that fakie website, but there are some good leads on there! The "lady baby" ponies definitely look similar in body size and type. I'll search the entire site tomorrow to see what they have.

CustomsRFun, I found Sunribbon online a few weeks ago and thought it looked grayish as well! I sent the pic to my sister, and she says it's not the same. She's two years older than me, so she has a better memory of the pony.

Sundown, I used to have Parasol as well! It's cool to see all these ponies we used to have as kids. It's been decades!

Mrbrightsky, you can get custom ponies commissioned?? I did not know that!!! *runs away to do more research*

My sister and I sometimes wonder if the whole fleeting episode was just a dream! We're pretty close, but not enough to have the same dreams, I hope! :-P The whole thing is pretty bizarre though.

I really appreciate everyone's help!

Hmm, the gray body color says to me it would have to be a fakie. Unless you got a pony that was already somehow customized, there's only a couple of grey ponies, and none of them are flutter-pony sized.

Can I ask what country you live in? US and EU fakies can be very different, and I'm thinking you may have either had a "lady baby" fakie (which did come in gray, but no rainbow hair) or a Remco fakie, which would have rainbow hair and a grey body. I'd have to do some research!

WAIT - wasn't there some kind of sweetheart-sister sized fakie that had umbrellas on her??? Gosh, I'm gonna have to search now!!
