I totally suck at this hiatus thing!!

In 2015, I spent a large sum of money on ponies.  So plan was to take a hiatus from pony buying this year.  I even increased my FTE at work to make up for some of the money I spent.  Well then I decided, instead of stopping cold turkey, I would allow myself to pursue some of the remaining ponies on my want list from 2015, posted and not posted.  Problem is, while searching for them, I come across new ponies I want.  And you have to understand, I have most of the less expensive G1s in my collection already (the ones that I want anyway). 

In another thread, there were several people, including myself, who had the goal of not buying any ponies in 2016.  Has anyone else failed their pony resolutions for 2016 yet?     Hopefully I am alone in this situation and you all are being good.  May be just what I need to hear to get some self control here!

Yeah, I was going to be on a spending break this year to save up for spending money at a convention in May, but I've already bought a loving family, some ponies from the arena and a pony lot on ebay.   I love them all and can afford them, but it still feels a little bad to go back on a promise to yourself.  Then again, I just looked up at some of the lovely ones I got and I'm not even sorry.

I  am actually the reverse, I'm quite proud of myself. I earned some money proofreading recently and I did buy something nice and pony with it which I hope to have soon, but the other day Baby Sugarcake was on ebay. I was online when she was first listed.

She had a very high BIN price.

She is the last US Mail Order pony I need, the last US release pony I need, the last "regular mainstream" pony I need and I have been looking for her since about 1999. She is, essentially, my currently most wanted pony. My "grail" now I have Paradise.

And it's nearly my birthday.

But I cannot afford her, and I resisted.

My congrats to whoever did adopt her. I'm sure she has a great new home.

So yeah, I've been remarkably good so far this year. O.o.

Not hard when you don't actually have any money...  If I bought something on Ebay, we would default on our mortgage.   

So it's pretty easy to say no, at least for me anyway.

@Taffeta I've already paid more than I wanted to on two ponies on eBay recently, but I really wanted one of them and the other I just got a little carried away with on bidding (I was hoping someone would outbid me in the end but did not happen).  I did place an offer on baby Sugar Cake but was turned down.  Seeing how I have already spent a lot this month on ponies, I think I am good with that.  I may even attempt to make a baby Sugar Cake.  She would be my first custom or replica. I don't know if replica ponies are considered customs.  Still learning the terminology.  Anyway, got the gears in motion.

I have some money but I should not be spending it on ponies.  February will be a better month ( I hope)!  NO MORE PONIES!  NO MORE PONIES!   except for trades and maybe swaps once I meet the minimum requirements

Well, my logic is, I've waited 17 years already. So has Baby Gametime. If I have to wait another ten, it's really not that different. It might take that long for her price to come back down, or for me to have enough income to spend on getting her. But I am quite proud that I rationalised, even though she was so cute.

I think what its worth remembering is...its not a race.

Dont get me wrong....we all want all the ponies (ok not all...but a lot). However, there is nothing saying you have to have them all now. When you start collecting its so easy to load up with lots of ponies because you dont have any so pretty much anything you find is something you dont have. I know...I have been there.

What worked for me was setting something like "a pony a month" or something similar. And deciding those 6 or 12 ponies that I wanted for that period. Spend ages searching for the right one - its 1/2 the fun...the pony hunt!
