De-rusting with oxi clean....
« on: January 11, 2016, 07:13:44 AM »
Hi,

Tonight i will be doing "mission de-rusting FF butterscotch" beibg my first tail rust operation ever.
I've been reading some tail rust tutorials, and one of them was warning NOT to let the tail soak in your oxi clean mixture cause the tail could fall apart...
My question is, how about the mane? I mean when you let your pony soak in oxi clean you have to get the head in to right?

The mane won't fall off, don't worry. :) And if the clamp that is holding the tail together looks okay the tail will be okay too. It is usually just the washer that is rusted trough. Bathing the tail in oxy probably is not nessessary, a good scrub with tooth paste will work better on it.

Thank you;) The de-rusting went well:D
Butterscotch was indeed pretty dirty inside, both washers were covered with a big layer rust but the clip was intact.
The oxi clean bath worked great, her body even got more bright making the head/body mismatch even less visible :D
The only thing that went a bit wrong was the combing of the tail, i pulled out some of the hair:S luckely not TO much, i compared her tail with that of my FF blue bell and it looks oke.

FF butterscotch looks much beter now AND there will be no more rusting in the future:D

I'm so glad it went well! I haven't started the deep cleaning of all my ponies yet, and the prospect always makes me feel a little nervous, lol. So I love reading everyone else's tips and success stories!
