Forgetting to leave feedback?
« on: November 06, 2015, 04:04:39 PM »
Hi,

Is it common for people to forget to leave feedback after they complete a transaction? I know real life gets busy and it's not always possible to keep up with online stuff all the time but I was just wondering if there are others that have had people forget to leave feedback even though you left it for them.

It happens. I know for me I always try and leave it right after I here from my buyer saying they've recieved their ponies and I've gotten the  pm that they have left feedback for me. But I think I have forgotten a couple the last couple months. I'll click the leave feedback button and my son will need something so I'll put my phone down and sometimes totally forget. You could send them a friendly message reminding them :)

It happens quite a lot , people are busy and do forget , or it takes them time to get around to it especially with sellers who have done a lot of transactions it can take them longer. It doesn't hurt to send a polite message, especially if its someone here - just as a reminder - as PrincessTiffy mentioned :)

Thanks PrincessTiffy and Ringlets. I did message one person and they said they had a lot of real life stuff going on but as soon as things slowed down they would leave feedback for me but that was several months ago and I still don't have feedback from them.:( I haven't messaged the other person yet to remind them. I don't want people to think I'm being a pest by reminding them to leave feedback for me.

It's very common.  When I sell on eBay, I find I'm more likely to get feedback if I DO NOT leave feedback for the buyer until they leave me feedback.  I don't state that I won't or anything, I just wait.

The last time I sold I decided to try something different and I left feedback for each buyer the instant they paid.  Not a single one of them left me feedback*.

(* Not at the time, anyway.  A couple of them left feedback months later, but most of them still haven't left me feedback.)

It happens... all you can do is politely ask once for someone to leave you feedback.  After that, it's a lost cause pretty much.

Thanks LadyMoondancer and lovesbabysquirmy. My budget is limited at times so I don't have a lot of feedback here even though I  always pay as soon as possible and communicate with the seller politely. I always leave feedback quickly.  It would be nice to get feedback back in return, but I guess that doesn't always happen.

Putting my 2 cents in here...

I understand life gets in the way, but I hate it when sellers expect the buyer to leave feedback 100%. Especially when it comes to ebay... heck, I can't go wrong anywhere since I only do BINs so therefore I pay immediately :P When I see they've left me feedback, great! i'll leave em feedback for whenever I get my stuff, but if they don't and I get a notification thingy on my account board "So and So is expecting feedback" or whatever, then oh well :/ you're not gonna get feedback if I don't receive any...

Same goes for forums (I admit here), there's been a couple of instances where I left feedback for sellers, and they say "I'll leave you feedback!!"  but they never did :/ which honestly ticked me off...

So from now own, i'll just PM the seller that i've received my pony goods and I hopefully they'll leave me feedback within a week if not and all I get is a PM back (that's not a feedback notification) then i'm not going to leave feedback for you :/

Oh no!

I can see where you're coming from there. But at the same time, IMO feedback should relate to the transaction as a whole rather than just saying "this buyer is awesome 'cause they paid immediately". Some buyers do get a bit unreasonable about things, and their actions in the event that there's an issue with the transaction should be considered just as much as how fast they paid.

For example, years ago, my grandma sold an old baseball card that, to her non-collector eye, seemed to be signed by the player it featured. She mentioned in the listing that she was not a collector and was describing the card based on appearance only, but that it looked to be signed by *player*.

The card sold (for a whopping $2), the buyer paid right away, and Gram left positive feedback. Well, buyer got it, and went off the deep end because it turned out it was a printed signature rather than an actual autograph. They went so far as to call Gram a thief and a liar, saying she kept the "real" autograph and sent the print instead because it sold so cheaply. They were completely unreasonable about the whole thing, did a chargeback, and left negative feedback. Gram couldn't do anything to fight it, because she had already left the buyer positive feedback based on their prompt payment.

The sad truth is, there's more and more of "THOSE" buyers out there nowadays. And I think most sellers feel it's better to potentially get no feedback from a sale than to leave feedback based on quick payment alone and end up with your hands tied when the buyer goes bonkers over something you missed or unintentionally misrepresented.

Personally I'm always surprised when I get feedback as soon as I pay for the item. I usually expect the feedback after the seller has seen I've left feedback for them. To be fair I did forget to leave feedback on my last few Ebay transactions because of my work schedule.

I know real life gets extremely busy at times and there are more important things than leaving feedback but I feel like it's going to take me a long time to build feedback here if some of the people I've dealt with forget to leave feedback for me even though I left feedback for them.

No worries rosierjay. You don't owe me feedback. :) I've been hesitant to use the sellers names because I think both are good sellers.

As a buyer, I like to leave feedback first. I want the seller to see that I've received my item and am happy with it. I've heard too many stories of sellers leaving positive feedback and then the buyer leaving undeserved negative feedback due to buyer's remorse or an attempt to get a free item.
