Help with German translation
« on: November 12, 2015, 02:31:49 PM »
I am trying to buy something off of the German eBay website.  Unfortunately, I do not speak a bit of German.  I asked if they ship to the US and how much in my best german using the internet to interpret.  "Ich spreche kein Deutsch. Wollen sie vereinigten Staaten versender? Wie view?"  Hopefully it read I don't speak German, do you ship to the US? How much?  In another message, I asked about paypal.  If someone could translate the following response,"vielen Dank für ihr Interesse. Das Porto kostet 7 Euro. Bezahlung mit paypal ist möglich"  Does this mean they accept paypal?  There is not a paypal logo on the auction page so I am at a lost

Thank you

Okay, I don't really speak German, so take this translation with a pinch of salt. It's decently close to Norwegian, though.
"Thank you very much for your interest. The shipping costs 7 Euro. Payment via Paypal is possible."
(You might want to wait for someone who actually knows German :P)

Thank you both for the interpretation!!  I messaged her back that I don't know how to pay via paypal without an icon to click on.  Oh well, not an impossible item to find if this falls through

Thank goodness for the Google translator and the whole copy and paste thing.  Made for a pretty smooth transaction once I was able to pay via Paypal.  I now feel a little more comfortable accessing the German eBay site.   ^^; I just love these little icons

Glad it worked out :)
A little tip for dealing with other languages; Don't send the translated message - send the original one. Most people know how to use internet translators and sometimes you need to break the sentence up to get the right meaning. Once the message is garbled there is no going back :)

:bigups:  glad its sorted - the translations you were given here were accurate too  - thanks all! (I can read/speak some German ) :bigups:
Personally when I'm talking to someone internationally who speaks a different language I'll send a message with a note in English along with the same note in their language - that way they can check both . A pretty accurate free online translator is babylon.com  if you don't know the language yourself of if you cant get help from another member here who speaks the language in time ;)
