G3 organization
« on: November 03, 2015, 06:48:05 AM »
Excessive back story:
Spoiler
So I started out a "Brony" and only collected the molded hair blind bags & funko figures. Then my partner got addicted to the G4 brushables. Somewhere along the lines of helping her find rarer G4s, G1 caught my eye...then G3...

Now Ive got a mishmash of a little bit of everything (still no G2)
Our G4 collections are super organized and maintained since we've been collecting it longest. My G1 stuff is pretty well displayed, though always a work in progress. Its my poor G3s that get the fuzzy end of the stick and wind up just jammed on a spare shelf of the pony display. I genuinely think its because they're the most feminine of the gens I collect and was a bit embarassed to really put them out there and show how much I like them. In fact, its my favorite brushable line! There are specific G1s I prefer, and in general brushables are not my favorite- but the G3s have got me hooked!

So Im struggling with how to display my G3s properly. I really like to view them from the side, or diagonal to see both their face/mane and cutie mark together. And I really try to avoid putting any infront of eachother so I can see them all clearly.
Any input or pics of how you display your G3s would be appreciated!

Also, what are the online&print checklist type resources that are best for G3? I use both strawberryreef and mylittlewiki, but Id love to know if there are any others!

I have Summer's G1 book and love it, but the 2 G3 books have me a bit confused. Theyre both on my Xmas list this year, but do I need both? I cant figure out exactly where the first one leaves off to know if I should bother with the second one. Any recommendations?

Thanks all

I'm not sure what kind of display tips would apply to G3s that you wouldn't have already figured out with G1&4...? I sadly don't have any pictures, but I have similar display preferences and when I had my G3s out, I used hot glue and foam-core craft board to make custom risers for the built-in shelves in my living room. If you don't feel crafty, there are tons of pre-manufactured risers you can buy, from cheap cardboard to fancier colored acrylic. Or you can use several narrow shelves on a rail and bracket system if you want to go the wall-mounted route. Either way, make the most of your vertical space. ;)

There are lots of good G3 resources online, although they all pretty much say the same thing, so which is "best" is a personal judgement. Aside from Strawberry Reef and My Little Wiki, I can think of these others:
MLP Land - an all-gen site with an extensive G3 section, although G3.5 isn't sectioned off
Horsma.org - another useful site, if you don't mind reading Finnish and the occasional broken image
Silverfall's Ponytopia - the gold standard of G3 sites back in the day, but only active up to 2006/7
The Rereleases Encyclopedia - a niche site, but helpful if you're deep in the weeds with thirteen slightly different Pinkie Pies

The first of Summer's G3 Collector's Inventories goes up through the Crystal Princess line (2006-2007). The 2007-2008 supplemental mainly covers the 25th Anniversary and the rise of G3's Core Seven. Almost all the ponies in the second book are rereleases, so if that's not your thing, you can probably skip it.

Yeah, as far as displays Im really just wondering if anyone figured out some perfectly sized G3 display or something. The G4 brushables are all in the vertical acrylic nail polish racks- and idea I stole from someone on here :)

Thanks for the other G3 resource sites, Im definitely going to check them out!

You can do them by sets, species and/or pose. You can do them in the order you got them, or by symbol group,or even in color groups.

Floating shelves are good, since they're thinner they can be displayed easier then g1s, that is more at a time. Perhaps the clear plastic risers?

My absolute fav for G3 is - http://mlp.imagesofher.com/

On top of that Strawberry Reef and mlpland.com :)

As to your display, the only thing thats going to limit the way you display is space. Do you have the opportunity to simply make more room for them perhaps?

Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
Loa is my love god!
I love Loa more than PonyLady!
