I have seen some re-hairs for sale on Ebay recently that were not marked and had me worried. I didn't realize that there was a whole phenomenon going on. :/

I read a suggestion to not glue the head back on and to put a piece of paper inside saying it is a rehair and who did it. I think this is actually a really good idea as if you mark it with the wrong kind of pen it could bleed.

I can see this becoming more of an issue as time goes by. I will never understand why people glue the heads back on.

Pen is unsightly and over the years it'll either fade or bleed up into the foot's plastic.  It's also not a deterrent for a truly unscrupulous seller, as it can easily be sunfaded away.  It can help in cases where the seller is unaware of what they have, but it won't stop someone who intends to be deceptive.

Using a scalpel to carefully carve out "RH" is potentially a better alternative, since that's a lot harder to cover up, but it's also harder to see and still is damaging to the original, which many people don't like.  The paper inside method again won't stop dishonest sellers and may not be seen by honest ones, if they never think to pop the head open, which most won't.  It's a conundrum.

Honestly, as long as they're selling over the internet, nothing is going to stop a dishonest seller from being dishonest and it makes some honest sellers who genuinely do not realize a pony has been tampered with look like they're trying to be deceptive when they're not.

That is why I'm glad when a buyer comes forward and a seller comes forward and works it out right in the open. Neither jumped to conclusions.

I've been collecting for more than a decade but I keep seeing more and more of these type of threads and it just makes me more and more careful to check all my ponies over carefully for any type of customization. The problem is that some of it is done so well!
