Tokidoki Barbie
« on: September 22, 2015, 02:58:46 PM »
So there were two Tokidoki Barbies released recently-   a very small edition one with purple hair, and one with pink hair.  I kinda wanted the purple one, I won't lie.  I am a total Tokidoki fan! But she was really impossible to get/find.  The pink one sold fast too.

I just happened to be looking on ebay for her- and the purple hair is seriously.... selling for $850-$950  DOLLARS !!!

This is a plastic doll made by Mattel that doesn't even have joints.  She is cute but OMG!

So did you get one of these things, and if you had, wouldn't you be tempted to sell her at that price? I probably would be if I had managed to nab her!  I love the way the doll looks, but I would probably love $950 even more, hehe

Here is the coveted doll

I want to say I've seen this thing in stores, but there are so many toys nowadays. What is Tokidoki, btw?

ive been pestering my husband about the pink one for a birthday present or so  Im glad the pink one is the more common one because i love her more than the lavender version!!! The pink version is still easy to find right now around retail price second-hand but omg yeah the lavender variant is waaaay overpriced on ebay even for scalpers! Wasnt the purple one also originally priced at retail for around $75? Stupid ebay....and I thought the 2011 version was pricey!

Idk if I was one of the lucky ones to get the lavender one I would only sell her if I was desprate for money to make ends meet otherwise I would personally keep her. She would be a trophy!

I totally love the color scheme of this version over the pink one and probably wouldn't let this girl go unless I had absolutely no money left to my name.  I'm a huge Tokidoki fan as well!

That's crazy she sold for that much, but I was expecting prices to be around that range when I found out the lengths you had to go to buy her (something about finding a special label hidden on the Barbie collector website?)

I liked the pink one, but once I saw the purple one I liked her more.  I know she was almost impossible to even find much less buy within seconds of her being released (mattel "hid" listings on the mattel site and maybe others?)  - but I figured (hoped) I could pick her up on ebay, for a reasonable markup.  I wasn't expecting an $850 markup though!  Although I guess the first Tokidoki Barbie was super popular- I just figured now that there are 3, maybe the demand went down? Nope.

If she was articulated or another type of doll, she would probably be on my wish list.  While I'm in love with her overall look, I was just never a big Barbie fan.  If only Groove had made their  Pullip Tokidoki releases with painted on tattoos like Mattel instead of stickers. >_<

I ordered the pink one. At first I wasn't interested in either doll but the pink one has grown on me even though I didn't know anything about Tokidoki other than they had made a Barbie doll in 2011 and they had other merchandise.  The Barbie collector site had a treasure hunt for the purple one (Only 999 purple ones were made) and it you couldn't find the special treasure hunt icon, you didn't get a chance to buy the purple doll. I know the Toys R Us had the purple one up for sale for a couple of hours one day but those are the  only two places that I know of so far that have had the purple doll.

I can PM a link to anyone still looking for a pink one. :)

I didn't know there was a purple hair version of the 2015 release, I saw the new pink Tokidoki Barbie in TRU the other day but compared to the 2011 release they just look over the top. I love the concept, but I prefer the execution of The Gold Label version, just gorgeous!

Wow- 999 is actually a pretty large release! But I guess Barbie is a very big very popular license so their editions must all be incredibly enormous...

I didn't try to get one as I've decided to get the pink one instead of purple. I've never seen a Platinum label doll in my TRU but I heard a rumor that they might  be in stores in the New York City area.
