Can you remove SHS earrings?
« on: September 27, 2015, 12:00:40 PM »
I'm trying to clean a filthy Starflash and removing her earring would help a lot for around her ear.  I'm paranoid I will break it though so I thought I should ask first, since I'm pretty sure I can't.

Yes you can if you dip her ear in very hot or boiling water for a bit. Pull straight back on the earring (slight twisting motion usually gets it moving). It should come out easily unless it has already been bent before. I usually dip the ear back in hot water before trying to put the earring back in so it's easier.

oh I wouldn't gamble with that, but what ooizza says sounds good.
I'd dip a small paintbrush in nailpolish remover or acetone and clean that way!

Ah, well I've cleaned it well enough with it in that I'm satisfied now.  She came out quite nicely except for a bit of staining on the ear tips and hoof edges.  Hopefully the hair will end up in good shape even after it is dry. *crosses fingers*  Thanks for the info though!

It is possible to remove them, heat helps as mentioned, but I find it safer to push out the back 'pin' rather than pull or twist on the earring itself.  The weakest point is the stem that goes through the ear, that's where they always break.

Be careful!!!!!!!!!! :) I have damaged a few over the years when experimenting with changing earrings from baity ponies to minty ones :P The heat method does work but honestly unless you are relocating to a different pony, I would try to avoid removal.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

I'm definitely just going to leave it on, it's in much too nice condition to mess with!  It's only missing the very bottom oval on the earring, and I managed to clean around it alright.  Definitely good information for me to keep in mind in the future though.
