Just a hint...

it would have been much more prudent to have asked permission from those people BEFORE uploading their personal photos to your Pintrest account and then coming to ask.  Certainly if you ever have any of my photos, I am informing you right now that I don't even want you to save  a copy for personal use, let alone upload it elsewhere on the internet.

Ok lets all take a deep breath. Pinterest does not work the same way as many other sites. You dont upload other peoples images you "pin" things you find elsewhere on the internet. The source is always credited and the link back to where it is from is also always there. Your pinterest page is just "things you have found elsewhere on on the internet". If you post anything online anywhere and a social media pinterest function is live, you run the risk of it being pinned to someones pinterest board.

I think perhaps the confusion here is promoting it as some kind of source of information or place to look at pictures. Pinterest pages are normally for personal information and perusal. As the name implies, a personal pinboard.

I will agree that I think promoting it here as a resource, when so many people are rightfully protective of our own images (not to mention that the Arena deliberately keeps all images posted private and available to members only) is not perhaps the best idea.

For me there is a division; if you are sharing images on ebay or on tumblr or somewhere the whole wide world can see it then its open to being pinned on Pinterest; if you are sharing something privately with select people (i.e. what we do on the Arena) then pinning that on Pinterest is something you should check with the image owner first.

Your board is lovely and I am sure it gives you great joy to look at it and enjoy it.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

Thank you for this Hathorcat- I do love looking at the boards and collecting the pictures! I certainly meant no harm in sharing my boards- I just thought others might enjoy then.

I think it's also important for people to realise that any photographs they upload to the internet are available for anybody to use in any way they like- not necessarily legally, but there aren't many ways to stop it, because the likelihood is you'll never know about it.  I'm not saying I necessarily agree with it, but this is a reality of the internet, and something to be aware of.

I think I'm a reasonable person and if somebody didn't want me to use their photos, of course, I would respect that. But there are many people who wouldn't care.

I think in the case of Pinterest, you can contact them to ask them to remove any photos that belong to you when you have not given permission for them to be there.

If you do not want photos to be used there are usually various privacy settings that can be employed, or to be safer, don't upload anything.

I think there are more ownership safeguards with watermarking/signing images than if they don't have them, which is why most artists do that to digitally sign their own work.

With my images - I don't really care about ebay ones because they're ebay ones, unless of course someone is using them fradulently. With my website images, those are my ponies. They're my collection and they're online only for the purpose of pony information and ID. I have had people use those images before for false auctions and that obviously isn't on, so I admit that I don't like people using my images unless they have asked or I have offered them for that use, even if I posted them on the Arena. My ponies are different to me than my sale ponies. I dunno if that's the same for other people but I imagine it is.

I think the general safe rule of thumb is to ask beforehand, just in case there's a reason why the person doesn't want them to be shared. It was a really longwinded process but I went and asked ebay sellers for ages about MIP images. Sadly one of my site moves meant I lost some of the information for a few of them, but if a seller said no or I hadn't got the permission for it, I didn't add the image to the site. So it just protects you in terms of people getting cross if you've asked xD. It might be they've had some bad experiences with people taking and using their images.

I don't use Pinterest, but I do think it is a bit unreasonable for someone to have to go to the trouble of reporting images they don't want used on that site in order to get them taken down. It's far better if the original person asks first, rather than expects the owner of the pictures to tell them off if they don't like it. There is also one other potential factor (which only counts if the images are hosted by personal websites, rather than ebay and such). Bandwidth. I had someone linking to a direct file on my Jem site recently, and I had to go kick up a fuss to get it taken down. I actually had to change my URL link so it couldn't drain my bandwidth any more. In the case of images, I am unsure whether Pinterest takes over the bandwidth but if it doesn't upload them, I'm not sure how it can. That might be a concern for some people, and again, a good reason to ask first.
