Odd eBay situation with my buyer
« on: May 14, 2015, 10:47:25 AM »
I sold a Funko vinyl a couple of weeks back to a user with less than 30 positive feedback on eBay. She left me positive feedback before the item was ever delivered (going from the States to Australia and she posted the feedback two days after I shipped) which itself was odd, but it wasn't the first time it's happened.

The item was delivered on the 7th according to the tracking and I received this message on the 11th,
"Hi we had a problem when the item arrived . It's tail was broken, and wing was damaged"

I have been out of town and have only responded today. I have requested more information; pictures of the packaging/ pony and I also asked if the parcel appeared to have been mishandled.

I know these vinyls aren't made great so I don't really have any problems believing that it was potentially damaged in transit, especially after such a long journey, but the premature feedback and the delay in the message has me somewhat suspicious. I know that since it was overseas I won't get any monetary reimbursement from the postal services. But, I do want to be fair to my buyer.

I am quite curious to see what response I get. I just hope that my buyer isn't trying to scam me over such a small purchase. Thoughts?

I think asking them for pictures was perfect. I would wait till they send them then and go from there? If it was in fact damaged I would either offer her a partial/full refund or have her send it back for a full refund. The choice is going to be up to you.

If she does not provide pictures then I would tell her tough luck.

Which Funko was it?  Celestia and Luna both were commonly subject to having their tails fall out.  Not too hard to fix with a bit of superglue though.

Sounds like you are doing the right thing though- pictures are warranted.  Since it was ebay though- I would think you are protected Aren't you covered under ebay seller protection?  Just have them send it back if they aren't happy and then give them a refund.

Since she already posted feedback, you aren't obligated to give her a refund per eBay's rules. The buyer authorizes that their part of the transaction is done once feedback is left. EBay would decide in your favor most definitely.

However, if you want to be a good seller, definitely wait for photos and decide from there. There is a possibility, though, the item was damaged AFTER they received it....

I think you have some good advice here and I would have handled it in the same way as you - ask for pics and go from there. I cant add anything more useful other than to wish you all the best with resolving this amicably . I have heard of these being easily damaged in transit before now so your buyer might be genuine

Just wanted to update this thread to say that I received a response saying that my buyer would take pictures and send them to me.... And never did. Hmmmmmm.

Case closed, I guess! :P

Yeah- she was probably just trying to see what she could get.  Seriously even if the tails DID fall out they are SO easy to glue back in.
