Piggy Brag & Piggy skin issues question
« on: April 10, 2015, 03:32:43 PM »
So first - a brag.
I never ever thought I would be able to own this girl. She's a huge grail for me. I thought she was out of my price range and too rare / sought after. However, this particular girl has some skin issues that were well documented by the seller. Some of you may have seen her on ebay, getting relisted and relisted, with the price creeping down, and no bids. In looking at my other piggies, I noticed that my Blossom has similar skin issues, though nowhere near as extensive. So, I made an offer :)

Now, she's here, and I am so happy! On display, she's stunning! The skin issues can only be seen up close, and the rest of her is wondeful.

so, the glamour shots first...then skin issue close-ups

Now, I"m curious if other people have piggies with this problem? Do we know what causes it? Do we know of anything that can be done to help it? It looks like the plastic is peeling, got scratched, is deteriorating....but it holds up just fine to being handled (it doesn't get worse).

She's beautiful congrats Roogna on your piggy Grail :green:

Some marks like the raised scratches/lines are caused when the mould gets damaged :) the scratches are caused when the mould is cleaned and any excess plastic is scraped out. The next time the mould is used the plastic goes into the scratches forming the raised lines.

Aww, that is so sad. It almost looks as if she has suffered damage due to white lead paint. Otherwise she is absolutely stunning. I love her colours and symbols. Probably the prettiest of the piggies, in my opinion.

I was wondering who swooped her up- good for you!!!   I am happy she found a great home and someone who is pursuing possible forms of correcting the skin issues that I too have noticed on many Piggys.  Thank you for exploring this fix publicly :)

Enjoy your grail pony!!!

Nice addition.
It almost looks like some one intentionally scraped her on the neck trying to clean her, the lines are so uniform.  Regardless she's Beautiful.  You might be able to chemically soften the body materials but I would not want to even try that with her or figure out how to go about that.

Oh that's interesting, so it's like a factory error on their part.

how fascinating! I wonder why we don't see it with other molds. Even if it's b/c they are squishy....happy tails ponies are squishy and we dont' see it on them.

aww, it's like piggy pony psoriasis :(

But well done getting your grail! I always feel bad seeing ponies get relisted and relisted, and wonder why the sellers don't just research and list the poor dear at more appropriate starting prices ><

I have a friend who is currently making moulds and casting :) she explained a few things to me about the processes she's using and you can apply some of it to ponies.

I had a look at my Minty and Cotton Candy and both have very few raised lines. Minty has a slight patch of roughness on one hoof, but nothing like your girl.

I wonder if the mould was really dirty or damaged or perhaps her plastic reacted oddly to the release agent?

We need someone who knows about plastic!

Congrats! I have 6 piggies but have never encountered this before. I don't think it's a particular problem with piggies that we've encountered before.

Congrats on the new pony! Even with her flaws she is still lovely :lovey:

A lot of French ponies have scratches on them - is that also likely to be from the moulds?
