Pony ID needed

I got this girl today- I have no idea who she is:

Is her mane supposed to be that short? I'm giving her a conditioner treatment with a few others. I could see about her mane being rehaired but I don't think if the tail, if it is still bad, can be fixed by rehairing.

With the Dance and Prance Ponies, their manes and tails are relatively on the shorter side like many of the earlier ponies (also probably to keep from getting caught in the mechanism, and it's a bit hard to tell from the photo but it looks like hers has not been cut.  It's hard to tell, but I think once you condition and comb her hair, it looks like the fibers are still pretty nice and shiny, and look like they might straighten out alright.  Careful to not get water in her while treating her hair, the spring that winds the tail is metal and will rust.

Does her mechanism still work?

I have Swinger from the same series from my childhood, and her mane has not been cut.  I think the mane lengths were the same on all of the ponies in the series:

Oh!  And a wiki link to the series if you like:

Also also, if you're curious what's going on inside one of these ponies:

Thanks to both.  I think it (mechanism) it still works, unless it's supposed to wind then go then it doesn't but when I turn it by hand her tail does spin.  I just want to see if her hair with a conditioner treatment will be less tangled, sticky, and coarse.

Alas, sounds like the mechanism is broken then, it's meant to turn on it's own after being wound.  Ah well, it happens with these girls, unfortunately.  Still though, sounds like she should still clean up.  Worth a go in that regard.

Personally I like the very 80s nature of this line (in colors, symbols, and theme).

I think the mechanism inside the pony works but I see the blue knob on the outside had a hairline crack in it.  I Think if there was a way to fix it that it would work, but that's my theory. It could be broke on the inside as well. (I feel some resistance when I turn it, but the crack won't let it wind)

Great find! She is super cute. As has been mentioned, these girls do have shorter manes but not super short. Its hard to tell from your picture but I think it looks uncut :)

They do indeed have fairly short manes and thin tails - I imagine it was a safety concern, because a long mane could get tangled around the knob or spinning tail while the pony was in use, potentially breaking it the mechanism.  D&P's are pretty fragile as-is, overwinding them is a common issue that causes the wind-up to no longer work.

My suspicion is, like a broken music box which still can be made to play by turning the crank in the opposite direction of the way it is intended to be wound (which would usually wind the spring), the snapped spring means that the tail can be twirled by turning the crank directly (opposite of the way it is supposed to be able to be wound).  The mechanism still works in both cases, but the spring is broken.  With nothing to hold the tension (no spring) to make it go on it's own, it still functions, but not as it was intended.  I think the cracked spinner is just superficial, but I could be wrong.

A good way to tell would be to look this over:

If you're turning the crank counter-clockwise to make the tail spin, it's because the spring is broken.  It's a pretty common break for these girls, unfortunately.
