Delivery confirmation for first class mail?
« on: March 10, 2015, 10:04:52 AM »
I'm using the US postal service's website to figure out how much it would cost to ship a package from Washington to Pennsylvania.  If I pick the First Class mail option, then Delivery Confirmation is not an option on the "Add Extra Services" page.

Is it because Delivery Confirmation is automatically added, like it is for Priority mail?  Is it because it's not available for First Class anymore?

Help.

(The options it does give me are:  Signature Confirmation, Insurance, and USPS Tracking, plus a few others.  USPS Tracking must be something different because it costs a minimum of $6.95.)

Are you sure you're looking at the right line?  USPS Tracking is showing as $1.05 for me - just below it is Collect on Delivery which starts at $6.95.

If you print your postage through PayPal's multiorder shipping, tracking is included free for First Class (plus you get a small discount on the postage itself).

I think it is called USPS Tracking now rather than Delivery Confirmation, but I have NO clue why the site would tell you that it costs a minimum of $7... I put tracking on all my packages, and it's only an extra $1.10 or something like that. Though, I take my packages to the post office rather than do it online.

It SHOULD still be available even for First Class... I shipped a package a week or so ago via First Class with tracking, and sent one Media Mail yesterday with tracking. So unless something's changed for First Class since I mailed my last package, tracking should still be available at the post office if not on the site.

It may depend on whether you are going through "calculate a price" or "print and ship" - since if you print your label online (even through USPS.com) the delivery confirmation is included for free.

Ahhh, thank you!  Yes, I was looking at the wrong line.  Repeatedly.  :)

It really threw me off that they changed it's name, too.
