Fake ponies? Help!
« on: February 28, 2015, 08:44:15 PM »
I bought these 3 ponies off eBay. I just got them in the mail today, they came from Hong Kong. Dewdrop dazzle has no cutie mark, which makes me think she is fake and if she's fake the other 2 prob are fake too. I compared them to my other ponies and other than the missing symbol they are the same, the logos on the bottom of their feet all match ponies I know are genuine. I'm new to collecting and would appreciate any opinions/ help with this, thanks.visitors can't see pics , please register or login

They look pretty genuine to me, although DJ does look a little wonky, but that might just be a bad paint job, and I've seen that on some of my G4s. Does anything else on them strike you as odd?

Honestly, DJ sort of looks like a possible head/body mismatch to me.  I haven't run into it as much with G4s, but G3s went through a QC phase where it was pretty common for ponies to reach the shelves with missing symbols.  It's also pretty easy to remove symbols, but I'm not sure why the seller would have done that, especially on just one of them.  As far as I can tell, they do look genuine to me, too :)

Other than the missing symbol on Dewdrop Dazzle they look pretty normal to me. I did think Dj Pon looked a little off as well. They all 3 have the Hasbro and the MLP logo on the bottoms of their feet so I'm gonna assume they are the real deal. I did contact the seller about sending me a new Dewdrop, but I kinda wanna keep the one I have bc the lack of a cutie mark makes her unique.

I think they're probably genuine in the sense that they're made by Hasbro in Hasbro's factories. But from what I've seen, a lot of toys that turn up for sale from China or Hong Kong are ones that didn't pass quality control or were rejected for some reason.

So they'd be technically genuine, but never made it all the way through to where they'd have gone out to stores.

That makes sense. Next time i'll think twice before ordering ponies from China...

When you think about it, though, some of the "rejects" actually look better than the ones that are making it through to the stores. XD

They are genuine. I have yet to see fakies of g4s in that good quality. If she is missing the cutiemark she either had it rubbed off with acetone or she was never printed in the first place, and if the second is true then she is either a reject someone bought on taobao or she is one of those ponies which accidentally gets through the quality control.

I just gotta message back from the seller, they are sending me a new Dewdrop Dazzle and letting me keep the one I already have. I'm happy with that...

I agree with the other posts here. Real but rejects. Unfortunately when buying loose ponies like this from countries where they are made but perhaps not sold in stores, they are most likely toys that simply did not make it past the cut.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
