Times you should have tested something first...
« on: February 20, 2015, 11:35:53 PM »
My confession:
I was trying to remove the symbol of one of the translucent ponies, and naively assumed translucent plastic would work the same as opaque plastic. When a cloudy film appeared, it didn't register and Like An Idiot I added more acetone to remove the symbol and film, before I caught on. Now the back half of my pony has been eaten into by the acetone, and resembles something similar to beach glass >.< and the front still perfectly translucent.

I should have tested a small patch first! *kicks self* At least it still looks nice on the non-display side.

Ouch! Which generation pony was it?

I once split open a pony's head after forgetting it soaking in nail polish remover with acetone in it. This was years ago though, back when I was just starting to customize ponies.

Using oxy clean on a so soft, then utilizing Jasco to de-flock a so soft three years later=smeary paint. I will never use oxy-clean again. (That's the only time I've ever used that combination of chemicals.) I've de-flocked enough ponies with Jasco and none of the others ended up with smeared paint.

Ick! That doesn't sound good! You know.... I wonder if putting a satin sealant over it might fix the problem....

huh. I hadn't thought of that. I have Decaclear Satin polyurethane. Maybe I'll give that a try (and test it first this time)

I'll let ya know how it goes!

If it's clouded from tiny scratches it might work or at least help a bit.

Well, I didn't hack into it, the acetone just started to soften the plastic (?) maybe (?) so the plastic broke down, and now it looks like i used sandpaper just on the surface. It does look better when its under water or wet, so maybe the satin coating will help! I will try later tonight :)
