Reuniting ponies with initials with their original owners?
« on: February 12, 2015, 09:10:48 AM »
Does anyone know if there's any registry or list of people looking to be reunited with their childhood ponies that have initials on their feet? (hard to word that question) I've been cleaning ponies for a few hours and, of course, some have names/initials on them, so I got to thinking, wondering if their original owners are looking for them. Anyone know of any list like that? I thought I might have heard of one once a long time ago. . .

I remember seeing a list somewhere too & thought it was a pretty neat idea. I sold my childhood collection way back in 1998 most went to the Delaneys but sold some to members on the MLTP. I used to mark my ponies with a pink/red pen dot and number under there hooves, I had about 300, I would be interested in buying a few back esp my faves. So give me a shout if you find any with red pen numbers under their hooves. ✌️

There certainly has been one in the past, but not heard of it in a while. I would guess it eventually fell by the wayside :( It  is a neat idea! I do occasionally keep an eye out for my original Lullabye Nursery, but no luck yet! (I had used some of the dragon stickers from the comics as posters for the ponies ;) )

Oh that would be a fab Idea! I'd live to get my original sky dancer back, she had an A written on both back hooves in thick blue market and u think I trimmed her forelock too.

And those are the two very reasons I gave her away to a school fair years ago.

Would be fab to see her again!:)

yes I saw an online registry a few years ago. I'll see if I can find it in my bookmarks.

I agree with LadyG there was a website a long time ago which did this...something about "find your way home" or something it was called but I have long since lost the link and no doubt it is no more. I recall someone mentioning planning on doing something similar a year or so ago but I dont think anything came of it.

Its such a lovely idea!

Okay, thanks for the info, guys. If anyone finds a link or webpage, let me know. My ponies don't have any of the marks you guys mentioned, but who knows? Maybe someday you'll find them. Actually, some have "Kim" written on them (and others have other names, like "Crystal"; quite a mixed lot), which makes me wonder if I should ask Kimberly from Dream Valley if she's missing any of hers. Pretty unlikely, but I had the thought.

Rats, I did find the bookmark I remembered:

http://thetoyloft.com/wwcp/index.php

but it's not found…

and their base URL gives:
"Sorry but The Toy Loft is now closed for business."

Elsewhere on the web I found, circa Dec 2011:

"Someone on the MLPArena posted about a project she is working on that involves marked or initialed My Little Ponies. It is a website that has pictures, descriptions, and locations of marked and initialed My Little Ponies. If you are looking for a child hood My Little Pony, and initialed it you can look in the database and see if you can find it! Right now there are just over 60 ponies listed. It isn't a lot, but hopefully it will grow.
The website project is called "The Toy Loft: Where in the World is My Childhood Pony?" and can be found at this address: http://thetoyloft.com/wwcp/index.php
"

So it's someone here that was running it, looks like "daizy18" is their user name here, maybe?

This is a cool idea! :) It makes me want to look at my ponies for initials or other writing. The most distinctive pony I have is a Quackers with the name "April Showers" written on her belly but I know I've got a couple with initials too.

I love this idea too!! While I don't have any childhood ponies I would love to be able to find some of my lost childhood toys. I have a Moonstone with the name Shastin written on the belly. It is such a unique name...sometimes I wonder if they wish they had it back. Oh well.....if there is a Shastin reading this.... I have your Moonstone!!

Okay, so using what you found I found an old Arena thread from 2005 about daizy18's project. You probably found it, too. :)

http://www.mlparena.com/archive/Forums/viewtopic/t=281755/postdays=0/postorder=asc/start=0.html

Like you said, it looks like the website is now defunct. Too bad! I wonder if there's a simple way to recreate that project? Like a thread somewhere on the Arena where people who have ponies with initials can post a pony they have and what initials or marks it has in case their original owner wants it. But then, of course, you could get unscrupulous people who will just say that it's theirs. Maybe the page could be unavailable until you have so much feedback/posts . . . I don't know. Just rambling. :)

Maybe that's why it was closed... some dishonest folks out there.

I guess if you required so sort of evidence, like a childhood photo of said pony? but I guess even then it could be spoofed.

It's a great idea, but maybe not one easily done on the web.
