I don't think I will ever have a complete collection because I don't want every single pony anyway, plus I don't have the space! And I don't have the money required to do that :P

Also.....I think, what would I do when I had every single pony? XD Would I start collecting doubles....or continue my accessory hoard.... but yeah, definitely won't be having a complete collection.

I am still after the goal I set myself when I started collecting in 2007: I want a complete G1 german collection, means, all ponies that were released in Germany (and can be found on flea markets here ). US and Nirvanay are extras, and I think I'll never get a complete US collection :D but I guess I'm not too far from completing, 10-20 ponies or so. I'm still trying to find out whether or not the late ponies in 1992 and 1993 were released in Germany, for example the Seaside or Jewellery babies... there are MOC pics of some of them with german names, but there are also MOC Nestie babies with english names, so that is not a proof :)

I can understand the appeal of complete collections, although it's not for me. I only buy ponies that I really love and like to either save for them or otherwise feel that I've done something to earn them. That way, when I get them down off the shelf to look at them, I get a little lift as they have positive connotations. A small collection also works for me because it's easy to look after and all of the ponies can have their own names and personalities. :P

It would be so sad if my collection was ever completed and I doubt it will be. It seems to me that my focus of interest tend to vary from time to time. At one point it was all white unicorns and then mocs, now I'm very into merchandise... that's why I think it will never be complete-complete apart from a lot of G1 pony-set I have complete!

This thread made me think about how I have most of the US non-mail order ponies. What's left now are the more expensive ponies. My goal is to reach 1,000 ponies this year (I have 910 right now). I am thinking about getting more into G2s as well. But I am saddened that when I go through flea markets I never find anything "new". Not that I'm not happy to find ponies. I can always trade or sell them. I just don't find anything I don't own anymore.
I own most G3s so I pass on all of them. I miss finding new items for my collection.

My sister found me my first G3 next to a bin, I started collecting G3s after that. But I never found any in the wild!

When I first started collecting as an adult I had this notion of collecting ALL the ponies! Then I realized just how many that was and I was shocked! So I narrowed it to sets I had already started, and that was still going to be more than I could manage...so I narrowed again to sets and/or years that held the fondest memories. That put me in the first five years of MLP and from there I have been able to keep a manageable number...
I have actually acquired all the G3's I wanted and that's surprisingly comfortable feeling...
It is not impossible to collect them all, but for some like me, not having them all is just as good. :)

Yeah... I used to be a completionist but I've purged several times and now I could care less.  I boy what I like.  It's mostly all been produced in millions of units, so buying it again using the Internet isn't so hard if I had the inclination to spend money like that at some point in my future.

I can't fathom the amount of money I would spend on trying to get every pony, especially with G4 nowadays. Blind bags as well as the massive amounts of boring Mane 6 releases and really it seems like it just wouldn't be fun anymore. That's just me though. I'd rather spend my money on ponies I really liked instead of just the ones I 'needed'. Also, I only have about 200 ponies and I already don't have that much room left.

Nope.  Not me!  I don't really complete sets or set goals.  If I like a pony, I get it.  I go through lulls sometimes where I have everyone that I'm interested in.  But then some pony I've never really paid an attention to eventually pokes its head into my life and bugs me until I buy her.  ;)  I just bought my first pony in well over a year!  I don't think my collection will ever really be complete, even if I go through dry spells from time to time.

Well I have my wishlist which I aim to complete f.e. G2 my favourite gen: only the ones that cought my eye. All of the G3,5 mermaid sets, only few from the G1 and G3 since I don't fancy them too much and any of the new G4 that seem nice to me, mostly the FS and princesses. So as for the older gens I have a finishing point, as for G4- time will tell:)
Looking for G2 accessories -->My wishlist
