Thanks everyone! We've settled on the paper white and are just waiting till our after Christmas checks to recoup what we spent on others.

I feel everyone that has mentioned expense of the ebooks or preferring to have the real books. We never wanted to go electronic, but it's to the point of selling most of our books anyway due to space or try something new. Money isn't so much the issue as space. Even my craft room has bookshelves because we have so many books. It's getting out of hand, and I also have to keep sets of texts for my pieces I teach. I tech 7-9th grade and that is a lot of books as well!

Space is my biggest issue, too. as much as I love love love real books and looking at them and I want a library like Belle's....one day....I have to be realistic now and think of the space. especially since I read most books once. one and done, usually. sometimes I go back if I really loved the book/author but things stay with me so usually...there are a couple I want to read again now just thinking of it, so I'm excited to pick up the books again.
ebooks are a lot easier for travel and space reasons for sure.

Check out BestBuy and other brick&mortar type places for deals. sometimes they'll run them even though Amazon doesn't have them on sale.

I have an Android Nexus 7 tablet and a Galaxy S4 smartphone... I use the kindle app on those. However, if I did get a kindle, it would most likely be the paperwhite version... so I think you will be pleased!

I use my tablet and phone also to read comic books and graphic novels, so there is that as well.

On a side note, have any of you ever tried audiobooks on your tablets/phones/kindles? I just recently in the past 2 months or so discovered them and it has taken my "reading" through the roof. Listening to at least 1 book a week when I have enough time to listen to it.

I keep meaning to try the audiobook thing but I read so fast I wonder if I will like it.

I adore my Kindle!!!  I got mine before the paperwhite was out and I like that it doesn't have backlighting.  The pages look just like a real book and it doesn't hurt my eyes to look at for hours at a time like a regular screen would.  I held out for a while because I like reading real books.  But I eventually asked for one for Christmas a few years back for a couple reasons.  1: I had been on a trip and packing 3 books took up a ton of space in my suitcase.  2:  I was about to have my first hip surgery and wanted to be able to have lots of books on hand because I wouldn't be able to walk for a while and wanted to have unlimited books on hand when I was home alone and unable to get up.

I still read real books, but it's so nice to be able to buy a new book and have it pop onto my Kindle from the couch.  And when I travel, I have tons of books with me without taking up any space at all.  I keep it in my purse and always have something to read on lunch breaks or in waiting rooms at the doctor and such.  My local library has an e-book checkout program too, so I can check books out digitally and they just appear on my kindle and then disappear again when it's time to return them.  I love it.

My mom has the paperwhite and likes it.  I just have the regular Kindle with buttons on the sides and no backlighting.  I didn't pay for the 3G version and that's worked out just fine for me.  I had debated getting the tough screen one, but I find that I so rarely need to type on it and I don't mind the buttons at all.

I really enjoy it because I can listen to them while I am driving or at work or working out instead of only being able to read when I am sitting down at home not doing anything else in particular... lol

I have a basic Kindle, which I inherited.  It's very convenient for travel.  But I tend to buy a lot of my books second hand and I also tend to lend books out, and it isn't terribly useful for either.  Still, I'm very happy to have it.  The battery seems to last about a week or so.

My best friend and my sister both have paper whites and love them.  :)
