I definitely wouldn't mind! We will be there in May. Maybe you could join my family and I at the beach? Or if you like to go out, my brothers and I like to party each night. Or we could have lunch together or something. It would be fun to meet a fellow collector! I never get to hang out with pony peeps. I was at the MLP Fair last year but I only got to stay 2 hours so I didn't get to socialize much.

BTW I am so jealous you live there, MiRaja! I would LOOOOOOVE to have my home in Pensacola Beach. It'd be like a dream.

I'm not on the beach proper, I'm off the bay-bluffs, about a mile away from the University.  It's a good place.  I'm not too far from my aging parents who live in the next county over, but I'm close to the decent resort jobs.  If I got a job on the beach, however, I would have to move to the beach proper, as the height of the season, it's havoc to get onto the beach in the morning.  I have friends who have been stuck on the beach bridge for 3hrs!  Just pm me when you get closer to coming over to Pensacola and let me know what sorts of things you like to do.  Pensacola does have some decent antique/flea markets, thrift stores are busts here. . .  Since I'm local, I do know some really awesome places, couple different brew pubs. . .  Pensacola does have some amazing sushi joints, you just need to know which ones are the good ones. . .!  ;3  I can go on!

Sprinklecupcake; if your husband is worried about the crime rate, Santa Rosa County is a good place in Florida to move.  It has one of the lowest crime rates in the entire state by far, and Navarre Beach, which hooks up into Pensacola beach, is gorgeous.  Property isn't expensive at all.  My parents bought a decent size house with a small parcel of land and an outbuilding on the outskirts of Pace-Milton for all of $87k.  And that was prior to the recession.  I've been looking for property now, just waiting for a settlement to have a down payment and to get caught up on everything, and it's surprising what a person can buy for $100k here!

DazzleKitty look up Longboat Key if you wanna dream of a house by the sea! When my dad was around he ALWAYS took me and my half sibs there on weekends! Its BEAUTIFUL and I have aleays wanted to live at one of the houses there! 5am ish all these seastars would come out and its the BEST time to look for shells! Its also really safe to live there as well, if I pooped Ben Franklins that would be my #1 choice to live! :D

Also is it... bad of me that I actually miss hurricane warnings? I absolutly love stormy weather! I remember in FL our house structure was made of concrete so it was fine during hurrican season, even in the worst of storms I remember just seeing branches and wood everywhere outside when the storm passed. My daddy also got to stay home if the weather was bad, no school, we just stayed inside the whole time! I miss soooo much how where Ilved in FL it rained after school almost every day! Here in DFW I have yet to see a single tornado and theres more ice stprms in Texas than anything! When I was moving to Texas I expected everything BUT ice storms!! xD

I also miss seeing alligators sunbathing off the side of the highway! I didnt live in FL for my entire childhood but its still a habit for me too look! *blush* Im surprised they dont live here in NE Texas to be honest!

Not Florida itself but I miss the gulf Coast. We used to go to gulf shores every year when I was growing up. Then I was lucky enough to be stationed in Biloxi. I miss the ocean SO much. When we got marrid last fall it was a toss up between St Mary's or Atlanta. Unfortunately my work is in Atlanta and I couldn't get a transfer south. I'd do almost anything to move back to the ocean.

I've never lived in Florida, but my family did visit there when I was *really* young. I came very close to dying on that trip, so my family doesn't remember that trip too fondly, even though I barely remember it at all.

As for me, and not at all related to the experience above, I would never want to live there. In fact, I don't think I could live there. Where I live is already far too warm for my liking. But Florida is hot all year around and humid, too. Yuck!

Living in Florida would make me eternally depressed, because even though where I live right now isn't all of that cold usually, the four season cycle is something that is very important to me. I feel very connected to it.

Also those hurricanes... The place is just an absolute 'no' in every single possible way for me. I don't even care to visit again, but that's me... I'd much rather vacation to somewhere far up North during the summer, where it's cold. That's my idea of paradise. Lol.

Either way, since you do like it, I hope you get to visit or live there again.

I think my heart will always belong to California but I have visited Florida twice, Pensacola a few years ago and St. Augustine just last month, and I loved both those trips. The food is great there & the people are so friendly and laid back. Great scenery, weather, and history. I can definitely see why you miss it. I think it's a really cool state from what I've seen.
Decidedly better than Colorado, where I'm currently stuck, which I freaking hate.
I definitely know the feeling of missing "home", well.

The beach is probably what I miss the most! :D Believe it or not, right now its chilly here in NE Texas and its fixing to freeze over and ice for the season (sometimes it snows) and although I loooove looove LOVE snow and winter, a day on the beach in the winter is fantastic! In summer I definetly love to go to colder areas up north and in the Rockies. Im also a big fan of the seasons, especially Fall and Winter, but my heart will always be for the beach at the same time! My body honestly neeeds the cold weather (im a big fan of Winter) but I still seriously love looking for shells in the coast! I might stay put here in Texas so I (and my husband) can enjoy the seasons but I still NEED to go to Florida more often! Its really a double love.... having to experience Winter or visit the beach anytime I want within driving distance is really hard for me to choose from! They are both luxuries, wish I could have both! :lovey:

Another thing I love about Florida is the springs! Up by the Crystal River I remember going to Manatee Springs in a park, the water felt AMAZING and I took a gatorade bottle and filled it with water to take home! The water was crystal clear but freeezing! Feels so great in the summer!

I grew up in Orlando.  After many years living in other states, I am glad to say I have moved back to Florida!  Ironically, I just moved here from Texas. lol

OMG no way! xD Where in Texas!? I would flip if it was DFW haha! We both want/wanted to get out of Texas! LOL

Hopefully someday me or my hubby can get a really good job offer in Central Florida! Id really love to move back! :)

I was down near Austin.  Went back last week to pick up the remaining stuff.  The traffic!!!  The area of Florida I moved to (Up near the Panhandle) has so little traffic.  I LOVE it! :)

I need to put up the pic of all the shells I found in Pensacola Beach this year. My mom made a really pretty glass display with them. I hit the jackpot this year for shells. I even found a perfect small sand dollar!

I hated it when we moved to Texas, too (moved back, really, but I was so young the first time we lived here that I don't remember it).  This is the only place we've lived that wasn't near the sea, so I totally get your feelings.  The manmade lakes and the Texas Gulf absolutely do NOT count and the people who have lived here their whole lives, never near a proper beach, just don't understand!

Yes- this!!! After going to Floridas gulf beaches.... nothing can compare! The beaches here in Texas are not only 8 hours away from here, but they have brown sand and covered in litter x____X South Padre island would be nicez but thats a 13 hour drive- the same distance as the panhandle of FL and Im always going to pick Florida beachesover the ones here in Texas.
