I was at our local thrift store, and saw this guy lying in a toy bin. Poor thing's seen better days - it looks like some malicious dog or cat got a hold of it at some point. However, it is a traditional-size Breyer! I love Breyer horses <3 <3 <3 but don't have the money to collect them! I'm not familiar with this one, so I was hoping you collectors could tell me the name, year, and price check for this model! I'm not going to sell it though, its going to join my Breyer collection (which totals 4 so far lol).

The painting on the body is obviously meant to mimic wood grain, and the stamp on its leg reads BREYER MOLDING CO. but doesn't list a year. There are also thin remains of some sort of foam or cloth on the bottom areas where the figure stands up. Also, the genital area of the stallion is more detailed than the newer stallions I have. Pictures below! Sorry for my crappy phone camera.

awesome! you've got yourself #931, king the woodgrain fighting stallion. he was produced first between 1961 and 62 up until about 1973. i am not up to date on breyer prices, but i do know that the rough shape he's is will probably effect his value. woodgrains are still super cool, though! they're one of the decorator colors breyer released. as for the foam on his feet. i know a lot of the woodies had felt/some kind of material as foot pads, though often they wear off, so you could be seeing the remnants of that.

Oh wow what a neat find! I'm out of the Breyer game, so I cannot say much on price. Your best bet would be to take him over to Blab and ask though.

There are a few finished ones on ebay, in really nice condition he seems to run $30-50.  So as a fixer upper... maybe $10-20?  I would have thought it would be higher, that he would be worth more, 'cause I haven't seen one like that before. =/

Sadly I do not think even that much Thunderwing as he is not that hard to find and restoration would cost more then he is worth.  He is one of the more popular molds done in wood grain.  If you are interested in maybe trading some ponies for him I would be interested as that is one of Clonecommanders favorite molds.
