« on: December 17, 2014, 06:08:40 AM »
I was just wondering... what do you guys get people who you work with for xmas? Do you buy them something small? I wanted to get everyone something, but my budget is very tight, so I cannot buy everyone someone really lovely... Does anyone have ideas for nice small cheap gifts that shwo you care, without being like what was the point of that present? lol!

Wal-Mart had some really cute owl salt and pepper shakers for only $3 (for both).  I picked up a set for my boss.
Nirvana grails:  Reverse Gusty (upgrade), Peru Windy and Moonstone (upgrade), Brazil TAF upgrades, Argie Powder w/ white hair (upgrade), French Windy and Moondancer (upgrades), Spain TAF's, TE's, and piggies.  These are my biggest wants, but I'm looking for tons more nirvanas, especially Greeks, Brazilians, and Peruvians.  Feel free to PM me for sales or trades.  But please note that I'm also fairly picky.

Depending where you work, some mini hand creams could be nice--and inexpensive.  Get a set and break it up.

I've unfortuantely never had the time or budget for it, so I've never done anything. That being said, I had a coworker who would make an enormous batch of homemade chocolate chip cookies and give small bags out to everyone, so maybe something like that? I have yet to meet anyone who can easily refuse home baked cookies!

My colleague and I spent a while discussing this. We have ~25 FT faculty we work with in our department, plus our boss, each other, one other secretary. And on top of that is everyone else we work with in our office (but different departments). It's a small campus but the people add up, and trying to figure out where to cut off is so hard.

So we got something small ($1 each) for the faculty (I did a gift baggie of festive pencil and erasers and a candy cane, she did a bell ornament with a couple hersey kisses). Then something bigger for each other and the boss. And just some general baking/cookies for everyone else to share in. Raijha also took some of the cookies to his work.

I agree that baked goods are lovely to give as gifts.  And you can pick up some cute holiday cookie/candy boxes at Target or Michael's for not too much money.

Baked goods!  Or they can be store bought treats, too. In previous years I baked a bunch of stuff and took in a platter. This year I didn't have the time or enthusiasm to bake, so I bought boxes of Brandy Bean chocolates and took those in.  Among my co-workers, some just give out cards, others bake, some do little gifts like a scented candle, and others do nothing except wish happy holidays (which is totally ok too!). Though the most popular thing is baking and treats.

Thank you so much to everyone who replied! I am very happy to hear so many ideas. It sounds like baking is the most popular option. Or something sweet wise to share, which is a great idea. How do you guys give out cards? To each indiviual or just one single card to everyone at the company? I'd love to hear other peoples ideas too. So if you have any, please post them. :)

I don't do cards, myself.  I made little reindeer buckets out of felt and filled them with candy and a couple little "just for fun" toys I found in bargain bins and dollar stores.  I found slinkys, a little mini jenga set, brain teaser puzzles, stress balls, that sort of thing.  Piled in with some candy, they looked really cute and everyone enjoyed them!  I think something like that would be equally great filled with baked goods!
