Spots and Body Discoloration.  Advice? Suggestions?

Would sun fading help?  (I've never done it before)

I'm afraid that's not going to help. It looks like pony cancer, and there's little to do about that. Maybe put a scarf around his neck to hide it?

Sadly, no, sunfading won't help those spots. Poor Chief has pony cancer, which (as far as we know) is irreversible. He's very prone to it unfortunately.

Thanks.  Yeah I figured it was unrepairable...

but would sun fading at least get his body to match his head?  the same shade of white?

Chief is so prone to those spots, it's quite rare to find one without. As far as I know, Chief does not respond well to sunfading and will likely burn.

As others have said he will burn most horribly if you put him in the sun... At least it hasn't spread to every inch of his body.

A bandanna might be his best chance to look nice.  It'll hide some of the marks, and if it covers the neck line, it might make the mismatch not as noticeable :)

Personally, if it were just a pony for my collection, I'd dab a little white paint over the spots and try to forget about them. Everyone feels different about things like that though ^^;

Or yeah! Like other people suggested, a bandana might be nice too.

yeah. maybe I'll see if I can find a close-ish match on his bandana and make one.   That will help actually.

I know I've asked before, but just to make sure.... the spots don't spread to other nearby ponies (or storage-bunk-mates) , do they?

It would, yes. :) Sunfading to match the body colours is something I've done a few times (and am doing now).
You could always try very light coats of paint once he's nice and white. :lovey:

I would avoid sunfading him if possible. With the age marks like that he will probably burn quite badly. Congrats on him though - I do think he is an awesome pony.

You might try a peroxide bath with him...I've had some success with *fading* cancer spots a little, but it doesn't solve the problem, unfortunately. I think he's still a handsome man, and a bandanna would definitely blur the line between head and body colors if the peroxide bath doesn't work.

The peroxide bath would be a great idea to prevent the possibility of burning, like Cat said. It was the only way I managed to whiten my Starshine, but that's only my experience with it. You could do a test by only exposing the bottom of a hoof to the sun.. :shrug:
