I rarely see them in Goodwills here in Indy, but I did see quite a few when I went to the Westside once. I haven't been able to head over there often, so I'm not sure if it was a one time thing.

In the 90s and early 2000s I would find ponies everytime I went to goodwill, Salvation Army, and value land. I'm lucky if I find a G3 or fakie nowadays.

All of the goodwills in my area won't out ponies out. I have a close friend who works there and they are instructed to send them to shop good will.

I have another friend who works for another thrift chain and they are instructed to send ponied out too due to the plastics made before a certain year might containt lead.

I'm in west Michigan by the way! Grand Rapids to be specific. Second largest city in the state.

That's pretty interesting, I didn't consider that they might be avoiding older toys for a reason like that.

It is very very rare to see ponies in goodwill here. In the 4.5 years I've been living here and collecting I can count the number of ponies I've found at goodwill on one hand. There are a few flea markets that I've had luck at in the past, but that's still very very occasional and it's usually not G1.

I really think it's very random for everybody. My advice would be to try as many garage sales, popular thrift chains (Saver's especially), and antique specialty shops as you can.

It's always a hit and miss. But that doesn't mean you won't get lucky sometimes! (The Saver's nearest to me, an hour away has always been quite generous.)
