I see a Cranberry Muffins for sale I go "I need.. oh wait I got you a couple of years ago".

It took me that long to track her down that she's still on my Need-Pony Radar. I also do it with some swap ponies.

Does anybody else find this?

Yeah that happens with me every now and then. Actually, Cranberry Muffins is one of the ponies that took me a considerable time to find as well, I guess I get all excited too when I see her for sale! A different but in some way similar situation was when I accidentally bought a second Boysenberry Pie... I was looking for Blueberry Baskets and got their names mixed up. (What's the matter with this set!) Tales Clover is also one that took me years to track down, I wouldn't be surprised if I tried to buy her the next time she turns up.

Sometimes when I go to a pony meet I actually need to call my BF and ask him to check if I already have this or that pony. He obviously doesn't know their names so I need to describe them to him, it's always interesting when he rummages through the shelves trying to find a pony that isn't there, haha.

I find it happening more with random ponies I got in a lot, as opposed to ones I deliberately seeked out and purchased on their own.

However, I just finally got Hopscotch, Snowflake and Honeycomb whilst on holiday in the UK and I wouldn't be surprised if I get it with them, especially Hopscotch.

That still happens to be with some G3s. I stopped actively collecting around the beginning of 2005. After that point, I picked up a couple of ponies here and there, but because there wasn't any structure to my collecting it didn't really 'sink in' that I'd bought them. In particular I keep forgetting that I have  Sunshower and Luau, because by the time they reached Australia I wasn't actively collecting any more and so I really just picked them up on a whim.

I'm actually putting together a G3 checklist before I start collecting G3s again for exactly this reason

I did this with Flower Bouquet! She was one of the last ponies I needed and I just could not get it straight in my head that I had her or had her on route...in 3 months I ended up with 7 of them *hangs head in shame*

Yes, sometimes. I find myself wanting to buy a pony I already have because she's just so darn pretty! But then I remember that I have her, and that mine is darn pretty, too.

I've had that problem before (not with ponies but another collection)

Eventually I just took photos of everything that I HAD in my collection, and uploaded it so that I could check back to see if I had it or not, or if it needed to be upgraded. (ALso a good idea for insurance purposes!)

For the most part, I deleted and uploaded new photos until the collection was complete.

It is a sad thing, isn't it, to complete a collection ? (Sorry off topic I know!)

I have to admit I do that too. Sometimes it is easy when I have stuff packed away to loose track of what I have. I think this is too common.
