Carol Danvers was originally Ms. Marvel, but she has recently had a 'reboot' and renamed herself Captain Marvel.  The new Ms. Marvel is a brand-new character, Kamala Khan, who has taken on the Ms. Marvel name as a tribute to Danvers.
