And thats the problem

As I had mentioned 'most often' he is a boy...but as you point out sometimes she is a girl. Maybe twins? Both called Twinkles?

You do get a lot of inconsistency with the books/comics. I think of Twinkles as a girl, but only because the Annual is the first MLP book I read many years ago.

I think it was intentional all these years ago - knowing how it would confuse us as we try and get one 100% answer. If I am honest, its why I never go with any of the media has ever being a "truth" as its just as likely to be contradicted elsewhere as it is to be confirmed.
