Hey y'all!
Princess Serena was the only childhood pony from my herd who survived my house fire when I was a teenager.  She is in "loved" condition, but still very pretty. (The flat iron on a low setting worked wonders on her crinkled tinsel hair!) However, she is showing some age spots/possibly pony cancer.  I was going thru my pony collection the other day and thought that a G4 Fashion Style pony sure would be a neat base for a custom Princess Serena to add to my collection.

So, I have a few simple questions for those of you that have some experience using tinsel/fizz hair...
1. What color do I need and where do I get it?
    * Her tinsel looks gold to me, in real life and in all the photos I've seen.  Just wanted to confirm.
    * Also, I'm in the US, so I don't want to pay international shipping costs, if possible.
2. What color is her actual hair? I'd probably be ordering from dollyhair.com, unless there is a recommended site.

I thought I'd read a post somewhere about there being new colors coming to some website specializing in doll/pony hair, but can't remember which one it was.

Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks so much! :)

You might try retrodolls US for tinsel.

Scroll to the bottom here:

I'd say her hair looks like "pussycat" pink, the fading pink.

Retrodolls tinsel is nice, but honestly a little harder for me to work with.  You can buy the fizz mixed with hair, which is pretty, but is a very subtle effect.

So here is my personal suggestion which I really love and adore: Sulky metallic embroidery thread!  It's perfection, and cheap.  It comes in three different shades of solid gold (and two holoshimmer golds, for when you need more pizzaz ).  You can buy it from Joann or Hancock fabrics.  I unwind it into "hanks", using a 2x4 with 18" width outer pegs, like so:

(I also use this to mount pony heads while I paint or hair)

And I clip it in the middle until I'm ready to use it.

Then I just use it like regular hair!  A bit of advice from personal tragedy:  Don't boil this stuff.  You can use the curling iron on it, on a low setting, but it will melt if you boil it for too long.  Or set it in front of a heater.   :yikes:

As far as Princess Serena's hair match.. I'd guess Pussycat or Kitten from Dollyhair.  I don't have a Serena to compare to, unfortunately.

Good luck on your project!

OMG, that wooden ... um, "tool" is super awesome.  I can just picture it with pony heads all lined up on it. LOL.

But seriously, thanks for the suggestion!!! That embroidery thread may do just the trick.  I think I might give that a try, since I kinda want her to be closer to a G1 look, rather than more subtle like the Saran Fizz.

And I was debating between pussycat and kitten, so thanks, Prideth! :)  You are awesome, too!

It is great!  I have two, I use a different one for airbrushing.  It's just holes drilled into a 2x4 with dowel rods stuck in it.  XD  Simple but effective.  I also have a little home-made hand tool that I put the spool of embroidery thread on and use it like a wand to unwind it really fast around my pegs so I get the right length (just have to cut the ends).  It's just a dowel rod with a cap at the end.

I'll post some pictures later of the ponies I've done with tinsel hair so you can see how it looks!
