Retrodolls tinsel is nice, but honestly a little harder for me to work with. You can buy the fizz mixed with hair, which is pretty, but is a very subtle effect. So here is my personal suggestion which I really love and adore: Sulky metallic embroidery thread! It's perfection, and cheap. It comes in three different shades of solid gold (and two holoshimmer golds, for when you need more pizzaz ). You can buy it from Joann or Hancock fabrics. I unwind it into "hanks", using a 2x4 with 18" width outer pegs, like so:visitors can't see pics , please register or login(I also use this to mount pony heads while I paint or hair)And I clip it in the middle until I'm ready to use it. visitors can't see pics , please register or loginThen I just use it like regular hair! A bit of advice from personal tragedy: Don't boil this stuff. You can use the curling iron on it, on a low setting, but it will melt if you boil it for too long. Or set it in front of a heater. As far as Princess Serena's hair match.. I'd guess Pussycat or Kitten from Dollyhair. I don't have a Serena to compare to, unfortunately. Good luck on your project!
It is great! I have two, I use a different one for airbrushing. It's just holes drilled into a 2x4 with dowel rods stuck in it. Simple but effective. I also have a little home-made hand tool that I put the spool of embroidery thread on and use it like a wand to unwind it really fast around my pegs so I get the right length (just have to cut the ends). It's just a dowel rod with a cap at the end. I'll post some pictures later of the ponies I've done with tinsel hair so you can see how it looks!
