Interested in a custom...Need help...

OK......so I just had a brain storm tonight and got the idea to look through the customs. I am absolutely floored by all the beautiful work on here but it also left me kind of confused on who I should contact.....the custom that I would want would be a Ninja Turtles Donatello. I would want it made out of a Big Brother G1 body....probably with a green body with white hair and a purple streak(or possibly reversed).........and possibly a face mask. And then the cutie mark being Donatello's staff....with maybe a shell...or sewer lid somehow worked in there. But anyway...I have never done this before and would like to get some ideas of pricing and...also would like suggestions on what you think would improve the pony or whatever. I don't have a lot of money to spend right now but I am working on my ebay sales at the moment so if I figure out exactly what I want and the price of what it would cost I could get it all worked out. Your thoughts and help would be appreciated.

There is a helpful sticky at the top of this forum about many of the artists' pricing and if they are taking commissions.  This post should probably get you a few offers as well.  I will note that G1 Big Brother baits are a bit harder to come by and tend to add a few dollars to the total.

The more details the better!

Do you want sculpting (his mask or his shell?)

I am willing to pay extra for the Big Brother body......or if need be I can find one and provide it. I think sculpting on the mask would look pretty cool. I am a little torn on the shell though...I think it might look kind of ridiculous to have a shell on a pony's back. I was thinking more of like a painted on cartoonish design...of the shell.

Try to think about things that might be specific to a custom maker:

Do you want this pony dyed or painted. If painted do you want an airbrushed look or are you ok with more hands on full Body repaint.

Should the shell/mask be detachable? If sculpted with magnets most likely.

Do you have brand preference oven bake or air dry clay?

What sort of hair are you thinking, what methods of rehairing do you prefer?

Just a thought about his "shell"?  What if it was shaped more like a saddle with a shell pattern rather than an actuall shell shape sculpted onto the pony's body? That way you could also add the straps/belt like the TMNT wear and incorporate it into the saddle/tack... Think Merry Go Round Ponies' saddles.

Sounds like a very cool project.

Thanks for the info. I will have to think about these things a little more and try to visualize it in my head. It is hard to picture it though. And honestly some of the stuff I will have to research as far as rehairing methods and such.....because I have no clue about things like that.
