Sunfading an Italian pony (advice needed please ^_^ )
« on: July 17, 2014, 11:00:39 AM »
Hi all! I have a lovely G1 Italian Glory, who has been washed and everything but her body is a rather dull creamy colour instead of white, and I am thinking of sun fading her. I have never sun faded a pony before, let alone an Italian, so I am a little worried about how to proceed- with their painted symbols and eyes, what is safe to paint over them so they won't fade too, that I can easily remove afterwards? I really would appreciate some advice ^_^

I am going to move this over to Nirvana although it is a general enough question I understand why it was posted in the Corral :)

As to sunfading, its no different with an Italian than it is with a regular release pony; in fact the white plastic in Italian ponies tends to be less age mark/cancer prone which even makes sun fading less of a worry on white ponies. Just cover up her symbols and eyes as you would with any other pony and you will be fine.

I was quite nervous when I started!  But he came up so well I'm really glad I took the risk and bought him

Yup, any white Italian ponies should be fine.

For future reference, most colored Italians are badly pigmented and DO fade.  Any purple, pink, and red ponies especially.  Think Twilight, Firefly, Skyflyer.  No fun there.

Oh wow he turned out fantastic!! Thanks everyone, I see the fading problem with an Italian CC I have, her pink is alost completely gone to a dull peachy colour, but I still love her- I wonder about re-dying her, would that work? xx

I will say you may struggle to get the right shade - it can take some experimenting. Italian Peachy is a pretty common enough pony so you dont need to worry about ruining something worth a lot of money if you do decide to go ahead [just make sure she is not the air brushed eye version :)] However, in general she is not a very deep/intense colour anyway so yours may not be as discoloured as you think.
