Need help coming up with Japanese name!

Hey guys! I have been tasked with coming up with a good name for a male Red-crowned Crane chick. I named his father as well (Yuki), and his mother's name is Akai. I would prefer another short/cute name that means something to do with flying or dancing (cranes are well-known for their courtship dances). Or maybe something else that might have to do with birds or Japan in general (they are also known as Japanese Cranes, hence the Japanese names).

Any ideas? The name must MEAN something, not be just some cute random anime character's name.

His father's name (Yuki) means "Snow" (since they are native to the snow-covered regions of the north) and his mother's name (Akai) means "Red" (symbolizing the red color on their heads).

I like "Sachio" = "Auspicious Boy" and "Tobikuma" = "Flying Cloud."

What about Kuro? It's short and it means black and you have the 2 other colors covered.

Well, the Japanese word for wing is 'tsubasa', but an alternate pronunciation of the same kanji (翼) is 'yoku'- so that's cute and short and means wing! Not sure if it's profound enough

doxiechic16: I LOVE the name Flying Cloud, but it's a bit long (and not quite as cute) in Japanese. And thanks for the baby names site!

kaoskat: Oh, Kuro does match the current name theme pretty well! I'll put that one on my list.

MidnightMocha: Tsubasa was actually one of the names I was considering! I think it's pretty cute.

What does everyone think about Tsuru? It's simply "crane" in Japanese, but it seems to fit well with his parents' simple names. Or maybe Shiro ("white")? And then there's also Tsubasa ("wing") and Kuro ("black") that have been suggested. Any other ideas? Short and sweet is best.

i was going to say kuro as well.
if it's a girl you can go with kuroko.
but i like kuro.

I actually really like the idea of Shiro ("white") because I feel like that could sort of relate to both parents' names since the mother's name means "snow" (snow is white) and the father's name is also a color.  Kuro could also be a good call; as kaoskat pointed out, you'd have all the crane colors covered.

I was just about to say Kaze. I really like it and think it's a cute name for a bird.

If you ever end up with a girl, you should name her Sadako, after Sadako Sasaki who created 1000 paper cranes before passing away at the age of 12 from cancer that she contracted from the atomic bomb dropped in Hiroshima during WWII.

Awesome, thanks guys! I really like Kaze and Tobu, so they are now on my list. I think my favs so far are Tsuru and Kaze. I will give the list to my coworkers as well and see which they like best. Any further suggestions are also welcome! ^-^

Kaiyu- the translation isn't a very good name, but there is a cartoon boy with that name so little kids might relate
