Hello Pony friends,

I've only done 3 custom ponies and one particular issue has me annoyed.  I know white is great for its opacity but it tends to be dry, cakey and less viscous than the other colors.  I'm on the second pony I'm trying to paint with white and it's just not working.  The brush strokes are obvious and mottled.  I don't like it.  And so far as I can tell, once you paint a pony, there's really no going back.  Luckily I didn't waste a good pony!

Does anyone know the best acrylic WHITE to use for pony painting?

Does anyone know what works best as a pearlizing medium?  I want to fix some twinkle eyes and also wouldn't mind a nice sheen to the white ponies.

Greatful for any input!

Best,

Cool Breeze*

Createx are amazing for airbrushing, or for brushing small areas. I and lots of others use their colours for a lot of brush work as well as airbrushing.

The Citadel paints are great for fast coverage too, and you can get their skull white in spray cans!

I paint all my customs by hand and so far I've got the best results with Folk Art, their white paints have a slightly chalky feel that makes them great for drybrushing and sanding (sanding better quality artist acrylics hasn't worked out for me at all...) and thus helps in getting more even results. If you're looking for factory smooth coats, airbrush or spray can is pretty much the only way to go, though.

Hope you'll soon find something that works for you!

I go with Createx too, it's already pre thinned so it doesn't make you want to not thin it down like you should with regular acrylics. The pigment load is great.

For pearl I use Martha Stuart Champagne.

I airbrush all of mine now, but would have no problem going back and forth with sponging or airbrush.

Great info!

However at the moment I have no airbrush so this will be the old fashioned way.... Can you use airbrush paint with a paintbrush?

And will spray paint peal or harm the plastic?

Lastly sanding.... That may be necessary to save the pony I'm working on.  I was going to try that.  Thanks!

I use Createx as well, and yes you can use it with a paintbrush.
