Princess Starburst/Amber question. regular vs german
« on: September 18, 2014, 12:21:02 PM »
Update with photos!

Does anyone have both the US and German versions of Princess Starburst? Maybe you can help me with the differences. I purchased one via ebay and I thought it was a normal one, but the seller had a little card that said (German) on it. The auction didn't say German anywhere.
A side by side would be amazing if you have both. Thanks!

(one more princess down! That makes my total 7!)

If she has the PAT PEND  stamp she is not German, but if she is missing the PAT PEND stamp she is German.

Hmm I can't remember what her hoof says. I'll have to double check tomorrow.  All I found is that the German one was pink haired.
So there IS a purple haired one, but it doesn't say pat pending?

Very interesting!

Yes :) Germany got two releases of the first set princesses. One release had the alternate coloured hair and the other the regular coloured hair. The best way to tell if a regular hair first set princess is German is to look at the hoof markings. There are other more subtle difference in medallion colour and tinsel thickness and colour, but the lack of the PAT PEND is the biggest clue.

Please remember that the lack of a PAT PEND stamp does not always indicate a pony was intended for German release ;) this only applies to a specific few sets of ponies, most notably the big brothers and the first set princesses.

So it does say Pat Pend.  Hmm so she is NOT German?

New question! Is this her original ribbon?

There is an absolutely georgous version of her on evilbay right now too. Her hair is faded, I assume?

I really like how it looks rain-cloud grey!

She is regular Princess Amber, not German I am afraid to say. Her ribbon looks to be MLP, but it is not a princess ribbon. Princess ribbons were thinner and had gold trimmed edges.

The pony with grey hair, looks like it is either faded/grubby or simply bad lighting! Yellow and grey do make a good colour match though ;)

Hmm wonder why the little card they included said German then? It wasn't in the listing either. Weird.
Hmm, I wonder who the ribbon belongs to then?

I LOVE the color on that Starburst. Grey and yellow work well together for me :3

She is a cutie :) Ponies travel all over the world.

Dont always trust the information that a pony comes with or what sellers (who may not be pony experts) may claim on ebay. You have probably not been deliberately misread but it could just be someone who has done their research wrong.

I agree the pony on ebay looks like her hair has been faded out over time; its possibly also a lighting and camera issue.

I agree her ribbon looks MLP just not hers. There are a lot of ponies with a purple ribbon unfortunately - it could belong to anyone from Cotton Candy to Baby Starburst (its hard to judge colour from photos).

I'm just glad to have her AND the ribbon! I may move it off her to a different gal.

It was just odd to not include that in the auction but on a card? It doesn't make a difference to me-I was just looking for a Starbust! :lovey:
