Tell me about your Etsy experiences
« on: May 24, 2014, 05:16:51 AM »
I'm considering the idea of making an Etsy account and sell some crafts in the future, but first I'd like to hear your opinions. How does it work? What do you usually buy or sell in there? May I sell only in Spain? (I can't pay shipping to other continents) Does Etsy charge too much money? Is there something else about Etsy that I must know?

Edit: I'm not sure if this is the right topic, so please tell me if I'm wrong

Only ever bought one thing, but someone here purchased something for me from there for our trade too, and both experiences were wonderful!

I personally have only ever had good experiences with etsy, both as a buyer and a seller. I primarily buy and sell vintage goods on the site.

It's fairly easy to use. When you list an item, you simply fill out a page containing details on the item. For example, who made it, what it is and when it was made. Then choose a category that best fits your item. Other information includes the title, description, photos (you can add up to 5), price, and shipping details. (There are a few other details you can fill out as well but I've listed the primary ones).

To answer your question about shipping: Yes, you can select an option to only ship to Spain.

Etsy's fees are very reasonable in my opinion. It costs only USD $0.20 per listing (each listing lasts 4 months, you can renew the item later for another $0.20 if the item does not sell) and they charge a 3.5% fee on the final price if the item sells. If you are selling multiples of the same item but with different variations such as color you can add all the different variations available in one listing so you don't have to make multiple listings for the same item (for example if you have 5 different colored scarves you can have one listing with a drop-down menu to choose the color rather than list each one separately).

I love Etsy. I am mostly a buyer but I do have a shop as well. Etsy is only for selling vintage or handmade items, or craft supplies of any sort. I generally buy supplies but I've gotten a few vintage toys and jewelry items too and all have been positive experiences.

Your buyers are the ones who pay for shipping, not you, so unless you just don't want to risk losing packages at all, you may want to consider selling to other countries.
