G1 Spike - I need to restore him

OK, I picked up Spike at a flewmarket and he has a lot of age spots (they're small but there're many of them). My kids don't like G1 Spike because of his sticked out tongue and don't play with him. On the other side I always wanted to have UK versions of Spike but they're out of my price range. So, I was thinking if I can repaint my spotty Spike? But I have no idea of what kind of paint/brush/etc. I need for this and I'm not a crafty person. Maybe someone here can give me some 101 to help Spike and me, please?

Acrylic paint is your best bet.  It can be found at most craft stores

It's what I figured out. But my first try ended up in a sink - I washed him because he didn't turn nice. Need to try again.
